First registration date

My Vixen was sold new by a garage in Sheffield to a
guy who lived in Birmingham. I have a copy of the original logbook which shows his name and address. The logbook shows first registrated May 1972 at
a post office in Birmingham by the guy that lived in Birmingham. I was wondering did you have to register a new car yourself in the Seventies, wasn't this done
by the garage?

It might have been sold by the garage as a kit car and only had to be registered when completed.

For those unaware, TVRs were available in kit form until 1973.
