I have checked the water level in the expansion tank and noticed it was empty,Checked level in swirl pot and that was 1/2 empty.

I checked for any water leaks, hoses, clips, water in oil etc all seemed ok.

I checked under the car and noticed a small puddle of water, The car had been in the garage for about a week.

I have found that the core plug near the dipstick on the righthand side of the block is leaking.

Has anybody had a simular problem and what was done to recify the problem.

My options are

1) stick some barrs leaks in and see if that fixes it.

2) renew the core plug, Does anybody know if it can be done in situe or does the engine have to be removed.

Any advice gratefull received.

I only brought the car last weekend, its the one in the contents page of the january 2005 tvr sprint magazine.

The joys of classic car ownership!!.

Many Thanks

Paul

Core plugs are pretty easy. knock a screwdriver carefully through the rust hole that was your core plug, place a small block of wood or similar on your block to allow you to lever the core plug out. you will probably find that tapping the top part will cause the plug to pivot on its centre which will allow you to get a pair of pliers on it to pull it out.

fitting new one is easy. just use a socket slightly smaller than the plug so that it fits snugly into the recessed part then tap it home, but not too fat into block. edge just flush with block. some people use a touch of sealant (ford high temp RTV silicone) smeared around the plug prior to fitting, but i have never found it necessary.

The plug will cost about 50p from a good auto factor. take your old one to obtain size.
