I have just ordered a new cover for the Weathershield sliding roof for my 3000M at http://littleportboathaven.co.uk/car%20vinyl%20roo...
The person i spoke to is very helpful and i gave him the reference, colour, supplier. Plus the size 34 3/4" wide x 21" long.
I already have a roll of several metres to glue to the rest of the roof.
It seems one important thing is to use the correct glue.
When the new cover arrives i will remove the old cover. That's when the aventures will begin

Well i've removed the weathershield 4 screws and i was lucky they were not rusted.
Just removed the front bar from locking mechanism 2 screws not rusted.
I removed the back bar which clamps to roof from the vinyl and bad rust on lefthand end.
So i have cut off 3" or so and will get a new bit of sheet metal welded on.

Just starting down the sun roof (Weathershield) replacement path, ours is split.

Managed to get the screws downs the sides out but the 4 though the rear section seem pretty well rusted in. Any downside in drilling them out? I suspect that the rear bar is already rusting away happily.

You only need to remove the 4 screws across at the back. With roof open you push one side forward and the other back and the sliding bar can be removed from the rails.
On my car i was lucky to be able to remove the 4 screws. Leave the frame screws on the sides which go from front to back.
What colour is your roof.

Thanks Alan.

Ours is a coarse grain black vinyl. Matches the rest of the vinyl roof, although it will all need replacing at some point.

Wanted to change the screws down the side for stainless ones.

Will apply GBH to rear screws wink

Well after a little light drilling the sun roof is removed.

Lots of dum dum underneath, peeled a bit of vinyl off - rear rail doesn't seem too bad, just starting to bubble but surface only. Of course - as I had to drill the screw heads off they'll need replacing.

Will discuss options with Adrian.

If the captive nuts are no good replace them with stainless Rivnuts.
I bought the cover from "Littleport Boat Haven" and they made it with Everflex from Martrim which i gave the ref for.
Standard MGB width and they make it to the length you want.
Glue to front bar first then assemble and fit to car.
It' best not to have the back already shaped which is fitted last + a little bit longer. So you can trim when glueing to the back bar.
Have fun

New Weathershield fitted and well pleased just like when it was new and the same colour.
I warmed it up before closing for the first time so it could stretch a very little and be tight. Perfect result without any wrinkles.
Now i must get the paintwork sorted.

Well here's the "Everflex" sewn and ready for gluing when i feel like a challenge.
I have done the seam "Flat Fell" which i think look better than the original simple seam and are very much stronger.

Hi Alan,
I hope it’s black (early m grain pattern) with perforated very light cream alcantara to match the roof lining. smile

On a 1600M i had a black headlining fitted very classy.
I'm having problems with some polyester thread at the moment that keeps fraying. I've just ordered from a different supplier a very strong nylon thread so i will see if it's better.
