Another vote for Ric Wood - Ric built us a 280bhp engine that was epic with loads of torque
We did the Nurburgring (racing) 3 or 4 times and the engine ran faultlessly even using 7k revs on main straight for what felt likes ages
Previously we had Essex engines from another builder that had nothing like the power and both failed at the Ring
I think £15k sounds about right - I think from memory our engine on triple webbers - everything new was about £12k and that's about 8/10 years ago

Cheers all, my current engine is a John Wade number - he did all the important bits and I just bolted it together. With standard size valves it gives just less than 170bhp at the wheels - mostly because it's happy to rev; the torque is nothing to shout about.
I had thought that he was long retired, but I might give him a shout: the last time I was in touch with him we got up to about £4k for a forced-induction motor, plus the cost of the turbo or supercharger and engine management to go with it, and I have an Eaton M90 sitting here gathering dust, although a turbo would probably be easier to deal with.
