Hi Corin,

1) I'm running 195/70 R14 Eagle Venturas on mine. Not sure if you can get them anymore but they're a good tyre.

2) Pretty sure you can fit a quick rack - talk to Adrian Venn or Steve Reid.

3) Yes, you can fit a quickshift. Try Rally Design (where I got mine) or Burton Power.

Congrats on the purchase!

Just changed the front boots on the Taimar and found that 195/70 14 are getting hard to find, so got 195/65 14 instead, they will give you a better choice of tyres.

Have a look at:

www.tyresonline.net

They've currently got 13 different 195/70 R14 options. I've had my last couple of sets from them....no Venturas now though...

I've just bought some Fulda carrat assuro's 195/70/14 91H( good for 130mph) AV recommended them and they do seem better than the Bridgestones. Had them delivered for £162 (£40.50 each) I think they are the older euro 70 wall as they fill the wheel arches alot more.

Thanks for that!

What gearbox does the M have, and what 5 speed will fit in there?

It,s either the 4-speed Capri box or the 2.5 Ganada O/D box and yes a 5-speed will go in the mounting plate needs extending backwards, got one in the vixen too.

Ford type 9 5 speed box fits with modification (use 2.8 capri better ratios). Use standard type E bellhousing AV modified (£120 cheapest around) input shaft has to be trimmed about 18mm to fit essex, new speedo cable and modified gearbox mounting plate. One of the best upgrades I've done, some will say the type 9 hasn't got the guts but mines been hamered for the last 4800 miles and still sweet as a nut!

You can definately get a quick rack from Adrian Venn - how quick it is I don't know as the car still isn't finished...

Note that 185R14 is standard.

I think 1600Ms came with 185/80/14s as standard on the t-slots, but were they original fit on the 3litre cars as well?....

By the way, I went to 195/70s on mine because the last time I tried to get 185/80s the man at the end of the phone asked "are they for a van then?" and tried to flog me a set of crossplies......

You'd think that full section or 185R14 would be 185/100/14 wouldn't you but oddly its 185/80 to 82R14 and yes the 3.0 models were on the same tyres.

It's difficult isn't it? 195/70s are about 4% undersized so the suspension won't work ideally and are very wide for the rims 5.5" or 6.0". Normally you would aim for rim width + 1" which gives you the 175 or 185 dim at a pinch. IMHO there is no perfect answer.
