Hello. I've followed the classic forums here for a long time but just decided to join. I was wondering if anyone on here has upgraded their rear wheel cylinders to the .875 bore Girling units used in the Sunbeam Alpine MkI. If yes, what were your results?

Surely a bigger bore means more pedal travel. I'm not sure exactly what other gains you would get if any. I may be totally wrong, and probably am , but I would have thought you would gain more by going to a smaller bore.

Getting the shoes re-lined with better material makes a good difference!

It sounds like a good idea, the wider cylinders equate to more pedal travel but also more pressure applied to the shoes. I find the rear brakes on my cars do not provide much retardation and so it may work?

The new cylinders are installed and, yes, pedal travel significantly increased. I can't really comment on the effectiveness of the upgrade as the brakes are still bedding-in.
