So on my 3000S someone fitted an Oil Cooler.
There is Oil residue around the Braided Flexibles between the Filter and Cooler.
I think the Oil pressure readings i'm getting for me seem high.
I'm wondering if the Oil Cooler is needed.
Have any of you Guys got an Oil Cooler fitted and do you think it's needed.
What Oil pressure do you think is correct.
Many thanks in advance
Alan

Thanks Oliver,
I think i will take it off and see what the Oil pressure is then. I don't like the idea of over cooled Oil.
Cheers

A proper one will have a thermostat.

Of course there is a Thermostat in the Sandwich Plate that's normal.
But if the Thermostat is closed most of the time an Oil Cooler is not needed.

An owner before me fitted the Oil Cooler and i don't think it's needed. I will remove it and see if the Oil pressure is ok.
I have already corrected mods that were not done 100%.

OK, if you can't trust anything the previous owner did, you're better without it. It does depend how hard you use it, if you need one.

I get 65 psi on startup (relief valve) and a good 30 on hot idle with oil cooler. I had a lot of oil pressure problems at one time due to a dodgy pump, and even a 'special' pump set up by a well known V6 specialist was a waste of time as the valve kept sticking - a Burton HP pump did the trick very nicely in the end.

Yep you’re fine on that, what did you think the problem was?

I think the problem is i have a 3000M also which the Engine has never been rebuilt and much lower Oil pressure.

Easy to say when it's not you paying lol.
All the time it runs without smoking or leaking Oil the Engine is staying in one Piece on the 3000M.
I must stop looking at the Oil Pressure Gauge and look at the Coast while i'm driving here in Brittany.

I think the standard Essex oil pump pressure relief valve is set at 40psi, how much below that is your engine running at anything above tickover?

Sorry but i didn't say it was below the Ford 40 psi figure.
I said it is less than my 3000S which has an Oil Cooler and HP Pump.
My thoughts are that too high pressure can be bad also.
Oil needs to operate at their designed operating Temperature.
Same as Engines need to operate at their designed operating Temperature. Not too hot not too cold.
Maybe the best is to have an Oil Temperature Gauge to see whats happening.

Remember that flow rate is just as critical as temperature and pressure.....
