I see he’s running a choke which is odd for those carbs. But where’s the other wire going to is there some sort of heater valve off the manifold? If so what type?
normal to have a chocke....the carbs are Dellorto´s....they are a pain in the *ss at cold-start without having a choke....its long time ago when i was driviing alfa-gt´s and giulia´s (the classic one):
the famous alfa twincam engine was factory fitted with double webers DCOE, doube dellortos DHLA or double solex ADDH (depending on engine size and year of built)
engine with Weber carbs: 2-3 pumps with the accelerator pedal b4 start and the engine fired-up straight away.
same procedure with dellortos: rough start.coughing or the engine needed endless turns from the starter motor to fire up. if the chocke was pulled it fired-up straight away.
same i have expirienced with all my dellorto equipped ford x/flwo engines.
I'm running twin 40 dcoe's with choke and exactly as Llantrisant says, 2-3 accelerator pumps and she fires straight away. You can't leave the choke out though as she'll cough and splutter very quickly if you do. The choke really is just for getting it started.
Not sure about 'restomod'. Why would you want modern components when there really is nothing wrong with the original as long as they're in good order and correctly set up. They certainly provide much more 'soul' and for me enjoyment, where modified with new components would take much of soul this away.
I guess many would argue reliability but that's just not true. If anything new components may be engineered to finer tolerances but they're usually inferior quality materials and are engineered to need replacing more frequently. Also more complexity and electronics introduces more things to fail.
I reckon if most people drove my Vixen (original but improved to a fast road spec) and then drove a restomod with Zetec, 5 speed box, blue hose kits (arrggg ) etc etc, most people would enjoy mine much more.
Each to their own I guess

I think it come's down to execution (and personal tastes, preference obviously) but I think you can still retain a cars soul or character. I'm clearly biased but that's certainly what I tried to do with my old 1602 BMW. I wanted the performance and sound of twin 45's but with the reliability etc of modern fuel injection. (I'm not dissing carb's by the way!) When we mapped it though, I specifically asked to try and retain the characteristics of those DCOES. I hear you about the blue hose kits! My 02 has a little over 180bhp (around 100 over stock) and I could never have got that from the original m10 engine. Well not without spending way more than my 16v swap cost anyway. It would also be pretty highly strung. Yours sounds like a lovely car though. Is there a thread?

No thread but here is a photo.I agree that fuel injection with mapping gives more ability to tune and you'll get more usable power. All 50 year old cars will be modified - as you say it's just down to where personal taste / preference draws the line. For me, I like to modify & improve but preferably using technology that was in keeping for the era.
There are plenty of Zetecs around running carbs and others with throttle bodies which I really like but honestly if you get a Crossflow built properly by an old school engineer who knows the engine, you will have a really nice and relatively quick car. Mine pushes out 134bhp which I'm happy with but it only runs a Cosworth A2 cam so it's very usable.

Mark,
I'm 6' & 12 stone and I feel very comfortable inside the cabin. The seats are quite narrow so probably wouldn't suit large frame people but height wise anyone up to 6' 2" should be OK. The doors don't open quite as wide as you'd expect so you do have to bend your legs a touch more than usual to bring them past the door frame.
Bear in mind much of the interior space is taken up with the oversize transmission tunnel which is very comfortable as your left arm rests there very nicely. But you couldn't move from the drivers seat to the passenger seat unless you're a small gymnast.
The rear parcel shelf will actually stow lots of soft squishy luggage and when not used it does give a feeling of having more interior space behind you which is nicer than lots of 2 seater sports cars that just have a bulkhead.
I guess it's similar to being in a BMW Z4 coupe.
I see you compete in sprint & hillclimb events. I compete in the Vixen at many events in the TVRCC championship so you're welcome to take a closer look if we cross paths anytime.

That's really kind, thank you. I certainly love the styling.
I'm just waiting to be able to fit the cage in my 02 and then it will be pretty much ready to do some events in. My aim is to make Crystal Palace next year, although I may try and make a local event or two.

Very nice. Converted to manual with bumpers refitted and a proper dash and it would be a dream car. I would spend a weekend scraping the red paint off the side vents too.

I've never owned a TVR but that looks like a whole heap of loveliness for the money. Purists please look away but I would love a restomod version.
I just love this "restomod" Grantura. Just about perfect with only Samco Classic hoses to replace the blue to make it A1!Not my car I hasten to add but features in my dreams! Built (or at least owned) by Kraftfahrer on here.

Agreed!
Blue hose nightmare.
yep, here as well, also red etc, I would only use black hoses to keep it clean and calm under the hood.Blue hose nightmare.
btw, I believe that Kraftfahrer (Anfried?) has also a very lovely dark red-ish griffith 200 ? or do I mix names :-)
btw, did you also see that lovely Tuscan V8, restored by a Dutch car fan, sold to a German which is now for sale via a american compagnie? but the car is in Germany, anyhow, one of my most favorite Tuscan V8 (clone or whatever, they advertised it in Nl as a Tuscan V8)
but... that dark colour green, so so lovely, I wanted to buy that when for sale in NL, but was to late, did not know it was for sale...
anyhow, this one, was also in a big Dutch car magazine, I have that magazine as well (not a member) and many pictures, but some also in that ad>
