Hi Everyone.

I'm about to send my original rack off for a refurb.

Before I do that, is everyone using the standard rack or has anyone gone for a quick rack?

Cheers

I've got a quick rack on my 2500M (similar enough to a Vixen) and I wouldn't go back to standard.

Go for a quickie!

Hope that helps. smile

TrumpyM.....this quick steering rack for the M series that you speak of.....where might you have found such an item?
I did some quick Googling but nothing came up.

I have a '74 2500/5000M that is left hand steering. Would be interested ... as the lack of power steering makes fast corrections a bit of a struggle sometimes. Might very well be the driver but thought the quick rack could help me out.

Thank you,
Arthur

Hello there Arthur,

Mine was fitted by Mr Bannister during a refurb back in the 90's - I don't think he hangs out on PH anymore but I've seen him pop up on the Taimar/3000M Facebook group now and again.

If I remember correctly it is 2 1/4 turns lock-to-lock and improves the steering no end (in my opinion); a bit more go-carty!

If you can't track Ian down I can give him a ring and find out more if you would like me to.

TTFN,

Vince smile

I looked into using a quick rack on my Vixen and ended up staying with the standard rack. It's pretty quick anyway and to really doesn't need anything that makes it more twitchy.

Also many on here who haver fitted one such as Tomtrout IIRC, didn't like it and went back to standard.

I guess it's down to personal preference but look into it fully before you go that route.

Yes, there’s a lot on quick racks on triumph forums with some regretting it.

A TR2 rack and some others are ‘quick’ they just need the arms swapping over.

I fitted a quick rack to my Vixen and I hated it. Made slow speed maneuvering very hard work and put extra strain on the upper column and column supports. I had to replace my column bushes, which failed after less than than 5000 miles, which was probably mainly due to cheap and nasty replacement rubber bushes but when I replaced those with poly and went back to the original rack it was bliss. Don't do it would be my advice.

Thanks everyone. Sounds like the standard ratio is the one to keep.

I dropped my rack off to be refurbished last week. Supplier said they had two other enquires that week regarding Vixen racks. One was apparently for a race car.

Who'd have thought they were so popular smile
