What's the end game Nic - smart usable or concours ?

I guess therefore my question is : are you doing a full nut & bolt restoration with the body stripped bare etc, or a masked up re-paint? If the latter are you planning a re-wire whilst the body is off ?

Hi, feeling my way, trying not to lose too much money! All my projects aim to break even.

I suspect it will be total resto.

Hi, stripping the shell. Good thing I have a sense of humour! Stripping the doors, having done the Griffith and other older TVRs I was expecting a bit DIY. But, the facts still had me shocked.

Picture shows a relatively good bit. The use of retainers appears random selection. Given this was a self build I wonder what the instructions said:-

1, When retaining the window winder, ensure you use 4 different type screws.

2, A range of button head, flat head and countersunk is preferred.

3, If you use a countersink washer, ensure you also use one on a flathead screw.

4, The use of wood is encouraged, but please ensure no square edges are created.

Nic

Done the last of the really crappy jobs. Paying someone to remove the rest of the paint, my goodness that is such a boring job…. Lost heart. Will go to paint shop mid April.

Took the chance to clean the garage and replace the carpet. Nicer!

Trapdoor is where we keep the evil children.. haha. Cellar. Obviously we keep all the children down there not just the evil ones.

Looks great, very quick approach! How many days and/or nights did you spend so far?!

I'm curious what colour you plan to use for the body? Will that again a dark green (metallic?) like before or do you want to paint the car in a different colour? Do you know its paint scheme when leaving the Blackpool factory?

However, personally, I would forgo the red accents. smile

Excellent progress.
Get 'er done!

Waiting with bated breath to see if the bump steer problem has been definitively solved with Nigel Reuben’s arms within the context of real road use.

Hi All

Bump steer certainly theoretically gone. It was really obvious before if you jacked up one wheel, shockingly so. Hoping it will handle nicely.

Colour, no gibbons bottom red accent. I agree slightly challenging look. After some deliberation going for a deep red, flat not metallic. I also like yellow, but, red seems the best choice.

The original paint is still on it, but really poor condition. It was forest green, or some such. Not a bad choice for classic looks, but not my favourite.

I will have the underneath and engine bay in grey, plus the carpets in grey. So, red with grey contrast.

Great progress Nic.

Are you also planning to rebuild the drivetrain (engine, gearbox, diff etc) ? If so any interesting ideas or just keep it standard?

Hi

Will have a go at the engine, gearbox and axle whilst the body is being repainted. I would like to build a sprint car, but, I don’t think this car is it. So, I suspect I will keep close to standard spec. Depends a little on what I find!

Best

Wouldn’t be the first time! Used to sprint in a Scimitar GTE. 3 L Ford engine as per many TVRs.

Might be fun again.

Or one can go Mazda with a Duratec.
But then - why not just get an MX5.

Plus - one can take off the plastic cam gear cover and stick this baby on:

A BDR clone (sorta) without the stress.

There are a few Scimitar GTE's in our championship and surprisingly (to me, because they look heavy) they go really well.

If there's any chance you will want to sprint / hillclimb this car, then I'd suggest keeping the Crossflow & 2000e box. If you change either then you'll have to compete in non-standard (sports libre) class against lots of really modified stuff rather than other TVR's & classics.

If, on the other hand you're just going to use as a road car then I'd also keep the Crossflow and 2000e box. I love 'em both and many people would be really surprised at how good they are. Better & much easier/cheaper to change the CW&P if you want a longer gearing. Crossflow tunability is as wide and good as it gets. Anything from 90bhp bog standard to 180bhp fully mapped.

It's all such good fun. smile
