That seems to be the consensus Thank you .
The adapter plate is from the Capri Club btw. And at some stage you’ll need to work out the speedo drive cogs size you need mine is 8/24. Mind you BGH will swap a knackered Type 9 for a heavy duty full rebuilt one for about £1200 with any drive cog size you want.

Thanks again, it seems the adapter plate is out of stock with the Capri club at present. And at some stage you’ll need to work out the speedo drive cogs size you need mine is 8/24. I have seen the BGH website, seems a top job but quite pricey, I also found this company in Coventry who offer a similar service
https://www.3jdriveline.com/ford-type-9-gearbox/ again expensive
Seems a great option though given that both companies improve the standard short 1st gear.
If anyone is interested, there are some very useful guides to the type 9 available to download on the Caterham website

Also found these

Hi, I’m in a similar situation, looking to replace the Zodiac 2 rod overdrive box in my 1970 Marcos with a 5 speed! The adapter plate the Capri club supply will be back in stock in around 2 weeks apparently, but doesn’t work with the early bell housing which I have. First Motion transmission in the link are very helpful as are BGH Geartech.
Ric Wood supplies an alloy bell housing but you need additional parts, total would be around £1k (I have a hydraulic clutch) but also very helpful
As you can tell I’m still head scratching at the moment!

Yes it does work, as that’s exactly what I have done. I told them this and they were going to change the website. You have to spot mill inside the bellhousing and mill the outside in one place to create room for a bolt head but it’s quite straightforward.
