Hi Folks,

The Perspex rear screen on my Grantura has seen better days and has gone quite cloudy.

I’ve seen some products online like Renovo that claim they can restore the transparency. Anyone know if these products work, or any particular recommendations? Or is it just a matter of getting a replacement?

Thanks
Andy

I suspect some of the headlight polishing kits would be perfect for it. Buffer with fine compound?

On an episode of Salvage Hunters: Classic Cars, they had a Sunbeam Alpine hard top with a cloudy perspex rear window. It may have been 'licence' of course to highlight a company's abilities, but they surmised that you couldn't polish out the cloudiness.

They had it replaced (not sure of the company) and even etched 'Perspex' so that it appeared in period. Cost them under £200, supposedly of course.

Sometime ago the Spitfire I bought had cloudy mouldy screen sections due to bad storage.

I used an Aircraft canopy product. It came in a small bottle and was hard work by hand but it worked a treat. I posted the before and after photos on someones thread on PH but can't find it in searches. i'll see if the stuff is still in the garage.

It came from Ebay have a search there.

Scratches can be easily polished out of the windshield. I did this in the past. However, if the plastic has become milky, this will probably not help.

Window replacements are available here, for example:

Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate the input.

@lancepar : could this have been the stuff you used?

https://www.afeonline.com/shop/mgh10-perspex-canop... For the sake of £20 it might be worth a try before buying new.

Thanks for the link to the replacements too. I think Andrew Gray carries them too, which is a bit more local...although I would love to visit Klaus' car collection smile

Before you spend money, try toothpaste of Autoglym super resin polish. I am sure you have the former. You may have the latter.

A headlight restoration kit will bring that up a treat.

Hi. I used a DA polisher on mine, same as on the body. Seemed good to me. But it was scratched not cloudy.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Feels like I should probably do a test of the various methods suggested and post up the results.

Does anyone have any experience on removing the rear screen from the car? Any tips gratefully received as I think it'll be easier to work with the screen removed then to try and do it from inside the car... I already struggle to fit in it now when facing forwards biggrin

Good old fashioned Brasso will polish scratches out of Perspex. If the cloudiness is on the surface that may work.
