Now that the "M" is running fine I have noticed that fuel is "sloshing" about in the fuel tank.
Did the origonal tanks have baffles in them?
Does anyone have any experience of fitting those foam blocks inside which are supposed to stop it?

Standard tanks have 2 baffles set against the ridges at equal points across the tank and the only foam filling that can be done is in the filler neck as the tanks have the fuel sender at the same end of the tank(unless you have one of our tanks, which have the senders on the other end to enable us to foam fill the 2/3rd and still have the sender work)

PS the biggest problem on tanks at the moment is that the customers who have fitted alloys tanks not giving the tanks any form of protective coating...they place the tanks in the car lying on damp felt where a rusting screw has been, (they might even see the screw and remove it) leaving the damp rusty felt in place and this is enough to cause the alloy tank to rot through and leak.

Thanks Adrian. The tank is new and is protected by foam underlay and it is nice and dry. I had not thought about the sender unit, so the foam theory will not work?
Can you remember wether Matt bought the tank from you? Does not appear so if there are no baffles in it.
The other problem with this tank is it will not fill to the top, it gets to about three quarters and then overflows. I have checked the breather system and it is not blocked and it is piped up as per the TVR parts manual.
Could the lack of baffles be causing this also?

Graham, most M series cars have this sloshing problem at 3/4 full, my guess is that it's because the filler neck enters the side of the tank about 3/4 up so when the fuel level gets above this, the stuff you're putting in has to use the breather to vent the air in the tank rather than just breathing back up the neck, which takes alot longer as the breather is much smaller diameter than the neck. The tank will therefore fill to the top if your breather isn't blocked, you just have to take it ALOT slower!.

Hope that makes sense. I modded the tank on my Taimar so the filler neck goes in the top of the tank, but this has yet to be tried as it's still not yet back on the road.

Hi Graham, the tank was not one of mine but we did modify the sender sealing ring as this had a raised lip and then the sender was held in by screws and as was never going to seal correctly, Matt ask us to modify the tank. as for 3/4 full tanks, again our tanks don't have this common failing are now based on our Turbo tanks which are based on Ford RS turbo internals to stop fuel starvation and fuel coming out of the filler neck.
