Hi, finally had the car running today but am experiencing some fuelling problems and would appreciate any advice.

Okay, the engine has been fully rebuilt and in the car, the Carb is a second hand DGAV with a service kit and manual choke fitted. The fuel supply is via a fuel regulator (adjustable 1.5 - 5 psi and set to it's lowest setting), a Facet Silver Top fuel pump and finally a hose into a Jar of petrol on the floor!

My problem is that when the pump is powered, it ticks away happily until it floods the Carb and then keeps going!

The carb also has 2 inlet pipes on the casing, one above the other. Is one meant to be a return? When testing the engine, I connected the fuel line to the lower inlet (the one that points down at an angle) and blanked off the one above (that exits the casing at 90 deg).

Anyone clues to whats going wrong? Pump? Regulator? Carb? Return pipe?

Darren.

Yes one is a return. There's usually arrows on the casing next to the pipes showing which way the fuel should flow.
A few years ago when I was having the carb refurbished ob my Vixen I put on a spare I was give that had a fuel return and tried blocking off the return but I had the same problem as you. Though it ran OK with the return going into a fuel can. I just didn't use the car until my refurbished one came back. If I was you I would get hold of another carb. without a return as it's easier than plumbing a return into the tank if there isn't one there already.
