Greeting from the States! I'm looking at purchasing a classic TVR and am wondering if any of you can give me some idea of what it might be worth. The car is a 1964 Grantura 1800S. Condition is basically parts status at present, it is said to be complete but for the engine/gearbox, but has been sitting outdoors (in relatively dry Northern California)for ~10 years. I work for a restoration shop that specializes in British sportscars, so I do have some idea what I'm getting myself into. I've wanted a Grantura or Griffith since I was a youngster though so this may be an opportunity. The asking price is $2,000US (about #3,300)and comes with a bonnet mold the previous owner had built.
Any thoughts? (other than run...)

$2000US is £1300 which isn't bad in anyone's currency. Offer $1500 and see what happens. Considering what's been done with the GT6 on your homepage, I can foresee a monster V8 Grantura on the west coast in a year or so. Buy it and contact the Griffith club www.griffithclub.com for advice on parts, etc.

Ah yes, I went the wrong direction on the currency conversion. The thought had occurred to me to make a Griffith clone out of it, but we'll see. I also have a pair of Toyota 4AGE (1600cc 4valve) engines lying about that with cams make about 140hp which would be amusing and lighter than the MGB engine it was originally equipped with, plus the easy availability of decent 5 speed gearboxes. And we have probably 20 or so MGB core engines/gearboxes at the shop most of the time so building it relatively stock wouldn't be very difficult either. My main concern was whether the asking price was way out of line or not. I'll most likely go take a look at it this weekend and then I'll know more about its real condition.

Thanks,
Bill J
