Yes an example of what sTeVeReid calls an Negative Equity Car, $37K spent in restoration, $25K sales price; profit(loss)=($12K) not into taking in to account the purchase price, but if it's a hobby - eh Dave!

Anyway Duncan up to you, if you want a 3000S, and I do have a soft spot for them, do a search/wait for the right car.

But you can get the slightly (it's a TVR) more refined S series for less, but as they are coming up to 15-12 years old also do check them!

An M series buyers Guide was in Classic and Sports Car in July 99 with nice pictures of a 3000S reg 8HP.
Again usual suspects; Venn, Reid, D-G and Bannister, mentioned, and off course the 3000S windscreen frame, which is hidden under the crome!

Thanks for all the good advice .. I'm relatively new to PH and think it's great ... find myself checking again and again for new postings! The whole web-site is excellent!

I'm still tempted to check-out the car, taking into account all comments, of course...

Anyone know anyone, apart from Adrian Venn (ie a local TVR member) or TVR dealer in Belgium, who may be prepared to help with checking the car ?

Terminator

As usual with all 'rare' or 'calssic' cars there are deluded owners out there who think its worth far more than it really is...are you joining the gang??

davidy

ps Since you car is so pristine how come it leaked like a sieve on its way to Blackpool, smoked its way around Zolder, on more than one occasion. Tell me more....

'Caveat emptor' not withstanding (Davidy's good advice about chassis condition) I have a 'M' with an original chassis that has turned out to be very sound. It even had the factory fitted felt when I brought the car. Adrian Venn checked it out (after I purchased.....) and declared it one of the soundest original chassis he'd seen. So it may be OK, but it is a notorious spot for rust.

Also, unless you like restoring cars, getting one that someone else has already overcapitalised will save a lot of time and money. I'll be lucky to get back half of what I spent when I sell.....

Get in contact with the Belgium or Dutch arms of the TVR Car Club, they should be able to put you in touch with someone who can help.

There are many M series owners in these countries, Call Carol at the TVRCC office for their contact details (www.tvrcc.com)

and as Simon says you will be lucky to get back what you put in. I bought a Taimar in 1990 (near the peak of the Classic car boom) for £7,200, some similar cars were going for £10,000+ at the time. Conservatively I spent about £15,000 (excluding petrol, tax and insurance) on it over the next 10 years (ok so it did have a complete rebuild, trick engine, suspension, wheels, tyres, brakes, etc), but I sold it last year (admitedly with a knacked engine, over-revved in a Goodwood Sprint??) for less than half what I originally paid for it.

I had a lot of fun with it in the 12 years that I owned it and I don't regret it at all, after all there are no pockets in a shroud - select carefully and have fun with whatever you choose.

Some vehicles are different based on their use,(no salt). My 3000s has the original frame and it has no rust at all. This is not an every day car but it does get driven in the elements, (see Terminators post on woodwork 02)I'm the one who drove 700 mi each way in the rain to the event. I do agree to use caution, But dont rule out all 'original'cars.

The Red Rocket is never ready for Zolder, maybe Zolder 2005. I may have to revert to plan B this year and get the XJ220 out of the museum. Consider yourself warned.

I assume that the 'package' arrived safely and you'll be able to stop for the chicane this year?
