The inner CV joints on my 1978 30000m are worn and the splines are worn too, any hints on how to change them and who is the best/cheapest place to get the bits from?
thanks in advance, Robert.

Robert

Adian Venn (0795 695 6042) at Exactly TVR does refurbished drive shafts. I think they are about £100 - £150 each.

The drive shafts are easy enough to remove. It's just a case of removing the 4 nut & bolts at the diff end and the same at the hub end.

Adrian supplied me some "alternative" GKN UJ's that are stronger (?) for my Turbo. As for the splines once the male and female splines are worn - they're worn ! I had a go at plasma spraying my splines to reduce the "play". If new ones are available(but i doubt it) thats the way to go. Revington TR i believe do an alternative shaft assembly (hardy spicer ????), but they were a bit pricey at the time. What about the cosworth diff and rear disc conversion!

My inner U/J has just failed for the second time in a week. Anyone got any good ideas why that might be. I have a 5 litre V8 in my 3000M and a Salisbury limited slip diff so I don't expect long life but this was not caused by enthusiastic driving. Does anyone know if worn splines or anything else causes the inner U/J to fail? I can't think of anything

I just had a similar problem, a UJ snapped at 90 mph, and it was only 2 years old since a badly worn one in the same location was replaced. Adrian Venn has some turbo style UJ,s which I am giving a go along with an alternative driveshaft.

As Steve say's ....We now have and alternative driveshaft and these only come with the Turbo spec UJ ....these are handling the 292BHP in my Turbo. Adrian

Adrian, I assume I have std. 3000M drive shafts and I do have what are regarded by TVRNA as the best U/J's that will fit them and needed with the V8, but they do say that they are easy to break (mine is their 14th V8 and not one of the factory approved 5000M's). I have similar power to your Turbo but probably a bit more torque which seems to be what the U/J's notice.
How different are your alternative driveshafts. Do they take a larger U/J on the inner and the outer? The inner U/J's seem to go sooner than the outers. Are the splines stronger or more wear resistant? I assume they bolt on with no other changes to the car? No change required to the Salisbury flanges? Are the bearings the same? Will they solve my heavy right foot problem?
