Hi folks, although I have been a member for a while, not many posts.

Currently I have a Scimitar GTE SE5a in need of some TLC (as most of them do), but the engine is in fine fettle as I have already rebuilt it about 4 years ago, and hasnt had much use.

I am interested in a 3000M, and I have always liked them, but I need some advice. Around 20 years ago, my Dads friend had one, and from what I can remember it was a brownish colour with chrome bumpers.

Did TVR change from chrome bumpers to rubber at sometime, and if so what year??

Does anyone know of a 3000M forsale with chrome, and possibly a knackered engine?? My plan of action is to use the engine from my Scimitar for a TVR, and then scrap the Scimitar.

Any advice etc would be a great help

Cheers folks

Looking in Robson's book The TVR's page52 shows an original Chrome bumper model, so presume 1971. Page 56 shows a 73ML with what looks likke chrome bumpers, and I have a 74M with rubber bumpers so presume change was somewhere in between. "Knowing TVR I could be wrong"

I looked into this myself recently as my 1972M came with rubber bumpers which I have now changed to chrome, I was told at the time by a lot of people that there was no rule, basically some were chrome and some were rubber, I believe that the chrome were quite an expensive option at time of purchase.

Chrome bumpers were original equipment, not optional extras and were on early "M" Series cars till some time in 1973. They were made from "cut and shut" Triumph 2000/2500 front bumpers and were obviously more expensive to make so rubber moulded bumpers replaced them, possibly to appease some American legislation but more likely because Triumph stopped supplying TVR.

Pietro, you are joking I take it???

4K?????

What's the car like?

I'm about to spend a sizeable amount of cash on my 1600M...but if there's a turbo floating around for that sort of wedge I might have to reconsider.

Would I joke? I just wish I had the spare cash!

This is straight from the ad:

"3000M Turbo 1977 Very good condition, runs well, Wolfrace wheels, MOT, space needed hence £4,000 ovno."

There is a photo of it as well - looks good. You'll just have to wait for Sprint to come out now.
