My name is Ted Mauro, I live in Clemson, SC USA and I have just purchased a TVR. I am trying to get the engine running and I have had some problems with the fuel injection. I have found someone to rebuild the injector but I still need a engine sensor.
I have been looking for a Engine Run Sensor for a TVR Tasmin 280i (Part Number: ENGINE RUN SENSOR AV1461 - ENGINE TYPE 2.8 Litre German Ford V6 with a Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection). I have had no luck (so far) so I am now considering using a weber conversion kit to replace the whole intake system. Does anyone have any information about making this change? How successfull is this change? Does it effect the price of the automoble? What kit would I use for this type of TVR?
As you can tell I am new to this. Thank you for any help you can offer!

I suggest that you join the the TVRCC NA http://clubs.hemmings.com/tvr.

The club president runs a 280i and knows most things that have been done to them on your side of the pond.

Well,
no luck with Wedge in England. They told me I have to call Bosch in the United States. I called Bosch and they told me they don't have listings for English parts but the guys at Wedge told me I would have to call US bosch. Is this part of the converyer system for US emissions? I need a 10 digit number for the part but I only have the AV1461 number right now. I'll look closer. The part is on the wiring Diagram in the shop manual. It is on sheet 1 USA-S2-V6 Engine Run Sensor. Does anyone know anything about this part?

Thanks again,
Ted

Not sure this will help but these guys seem to do the ECU for lots of cars and ship world wide. I take it yours is the 'Cologne'(sp?) engine as fitted to most Fords of the era, quoting TVR at some companies just sends them into 'don't have any that could be for aTVR' mode. Anyway try these if they don't then they should know someone that does www.bba-reman.com/index.htm

No luck with the part. I think it is part of the conversion to US emissions standards. The part once again is

ENGINE RUN SENSOR AV1461)

TVR
Sheet 1
USA-S2-V6
In Quadrant B/3

Where can I find a replacement part?

Any assistance in finding this part or in a replacement would be great
appreciated. I have the sheet I am refering to just Email me at TedMauro@aol.com
and I will email a copy of it and a picture of the part.

I wonder how Tedmauro made out with the Engine Run Sensor. It is not a Bosch part, but made by a company called Avant Electronics Ltd. I don't know if they are still in business. The US version is cream colored, the UK version purple coloured.

Its purpose is to shut off the fuel pump in case of an accident where the engine stalls and a fuel line breaks.

My 280i may be the last one imported to the US; the part number is AV 1455. Cross-references exist for substitute parts for many items; I do not know if this has an equal. I am also having problems, but there is plenty of help available in this area.

The ERS on my '86 280i (US Spec) is a tan colored Avant Electronics LTD unit with part number AV1455.
I am also having some start up issues that I think is linked to this part. I have contacted the company North of London. If idon't get a response, I may bypass it and get the car moving and find an alternative solution.

Does anyone have a "rebuild" or "refurbishment" procedure for this crazy part ?

Might be better posting in the wedge forum there's a lot of very experienced wedge owners there that may be able to help

You should be able to get the unit from Obsolete TVR. Send an email to mike mike@obsoletetvr.co.uk; if you ever bought parts from the factory, you probably dealt with Mike.

I bought one from him recently. Unfortunately it did not come with the correct nine pin plug.

fyi, one was on eBay some time ago; sold for $56, I think. Not long ago I saw the same item available for a US Spec Bentley - price $1056!!!

I did contact Avant and there is a business in that name making sophisticated sensors. They say they have never heard of the AV1455.

You could use the same engine run sensor that is found in the non-USA cars. That is a Bosch unit that runs the fuel pump when the engine is running. If your fuel pump is running when you crank the engine, check that the cold start injector is spraying. If not, it might be the green relay or the thermotime switch. The other cold start features (warm-up regulator and extra air valve) respond to the ambient temperature and don't need power to make them work for a cold engine, only to adjust them to warmer conditions. Good luck!

I remember reading about a repair on the tvrccna site ...it was a story about how somebody who had fixed the run sensor by replacing a diodes or something like that!.....as a 280i owner its nice to find a replacement source ..
