Say a driver is leading the race going onto 2nd last/last lap, and gets passed for the lead. The driver then drives into a wall, spreading debris over the track, causing the race to be stopped. Does this driver get the race win, as he was leading 2 laps before the red flags were brought out?

Highly unlikely, I admit, but a loophole nonetheless??

Hi I was thinking along similar lines while watching the gp the other day but my question is

After the safty car pulls in no one is allowed to pass until after the start finis line. So what stops the lead drive zooming of with the rest of the pack trying to catch up let them get close then slam on the anckers before the start line immediate penalty to any drive that pase the lead car

What happens if when the safety car comes in and the lead car stalls or stops before the line?

Do you reckon the cars would be able to pass the lead car even if it has completely stopped before the new lap started?

Did Fizzy's car pass the scrutineering checks?

I bet Ron Dennis would have complained to get DC up a place!

There's another loophole - win the race with a massively underweight car and torch it in Park Ferme!
Gonna have a word with Bernie about that . .

Webber was classified a finisher (7th) as was Alonso (3rd) because they had completed the minimum number of laps to be classified(90%), but they were of course still running 2 laps before the red flag anyway.

Alonso was classified third, so the car that causes the red flag can be classed as a finisher, because it was still running when the race 'ended' (1 or 2 laps before)

There have been cases where the winner of a race caused the red flag (I can't name them, but I'm thinking British F3, and a couple of club races in the past few years - can anyone out-anorak me?)

On restarts, there are supposed to be rules about the leader bringing the field round at a fixed pace. Slamming on the brakes should create an offence (though Schumacher got away with it a few years ago - remember Button spinning off at Monza?)

In our only red flagged race ( twice actually once at the start) the car that caused it wasnt classified. but that may have been a lap count back as there is a possibility that the car was stopped with a yellow next to it untill a few of us almost hit it..

I wondered about that myself. It'll be tricky to scrutineer now that's for certain. Expensive though.
