How Many People would like to see a Challenge car in British GTs next season, and should they be allowed,or would it ruin the Tuscan challenge or would the challange cars win against GTO Cars,or we could have a new class.I would like to see what readers think,
just imagin Stephen Guglielmi and Darren Dowling,David Mason and Ian Flux.

We where a second down at Knockhill last year. we tried a Dunlop tyre for GT racing on the Tuscan and did the same time as Kelvin Burts pole time, with Guges

Would they be allowed in? Never do understand how some cars are excluded because there aren't any road going cars yet others are allowed in.

No we cant use them ,as there are no road cars built you need 5 road cars, but i was interested to see if your readers would like to see them in GT racing, if they where allowed because this would fill up the GT Grid AS THEY DID WITH THE MARCOS Mantis CHALLENGE CARS in 2000 and this will give the tuscan teams a chance to do GT racing for very little extra costs, as we are at the meeting already and we could race our spare car not our challenge cars if we wanted, and there are a lot of cars out there not being used this might bring people back as they could do both, and our drivers want more track time, we had 45 cars in 99/00 so would this help bring out the un used cars.

Bert,

Great idea. With the GT grids suffering in numbers, added to the fact that the Tuscans are already trackside in support it would make sense to allow them to run with the GT's.

The Marcos Mantis Challenge cars did it so why not allow the Tuscans to do it too. I think it would allow the Tuscan drivers far more seat time in the car. It could prove to be a great way of preparing many Tuscan drivers to follow in the steps of the likes of Jordan, Caine, Short, McKellar etc in graduating from Tuscans to GT's full time.

I wonder what TVR's Mr Wheeler would think though!!!

Don't know about this - GTs and Tuscans would combine 2 of my top 3 favourite motorsports (Caterhams, since you ask), so it would reduce the number of races i could get really excited about!!

Seriously, although I think I prefer the Tuscans on their own, the main GT class does seem to be struggling, and as has been pointed out, there is a natural progression from Tuscans to GT, so it makes a kind of sense, I suppose. GTO looks set possibly to take over as the main class if conditions in motorsport are similar next year, and the whole race would benefit from the boost in numbers.

Why do you think it would bring out unused cars? I assume you mean Tuscans, rather that GT or GTO cars. I guess it would mainly be longer racing/prestige of being in a GT race, but is there another factor?

They are two different kinds of race, and I enjoy being able to see both separately, but as the sport goes through a time of contracting, it could be good for both their futures.

Caro, I think it was meant to include them into the GT race as well as having separate Tuscan races.

you would get a bigger bag for your buck because as Kevin said we would still have challenge cars but some drivers would like to GT race as well as being in the Tuscan series but you cant find a GTO car for less than 100k or a GT car for less than for 170k and they already have the eqipment there TUSCAN. I know I have tried for 2 years to brake in to GT racing. This way for less than 30k we could take on the GTO cars and i fell sure we could give them a good run for there money and for a lot less than there spending.

Kevin and Bert, thanks for putting me right, obviously I was exercising my famous talent for asking silly questions/getting the wrong end of the stick.

In that case, yes, I'd love to see some Tuscans in among the GT/GTO cars, the oftener they are out, the better I'll like it! As a matter of interest, how do they compare in lap times with the Marcoses which used to race with (as in at the same time as, not Calum Lockie's GT Marcos)the GTs? I remember it being a good test of whether Saturday night had worn off, keeping track of who was where after the pit stops...it's too easy now the field is smaller!

Good luck to all at Croft, can't be there (have to see a man about a Subaru/go to the NEC) but here's to more Tuscans wherever possible.

we are about 3 seconds faster than the Marcos Mantis challeneg cars THAT WAS, I dont know what sort of times the car of Alex Pilgrim is doing in its modifed form now. But I feel sure as I said before we could run some where near the front of GTO with Stephen and Darren in 1 of our TUSCANS.I dont think we could win but hay for 30k who cares.

Hi James,
yes there are a few about sterbber have done some, so we could proble find 5 road cars but I dont think the BRDC would accept that, and its an invertation race and also I dont think they would want 25 Tuscans in the GT race ethere.

i think it would be great, and even better because i've always wanted tvr to build a roadgoing tuscan ajp8... but presumably the restrictors in gt would slow the tuscans down?

and you'd have to forbid Baldrick entering, spinning and generally removing half the field

Still, would be fun in a wet race to see how the car weight increased by the driver change. But then again having looked at the panel gaps on a Tuscan, perhaps not.

I am joining this topic rather late but I think Bert's Idea is a great one. As has been mention there are now quite a few roadgoing Tuscans built (mine being one (and AJP powered)!).

I've seen a couple of Castle Coombe GT races where Tuscans have entered (in order for drivers to gain additional signatures to be allowed to race in the Tuscan Challenge) but the guys have stayed out of trouble at the back of the pack. I would love to have seen S Gugliami or darren giving the GT's some stick.

I think Colin blower prepd a car which ran in a Belgian GT series. And I know a while back Sterbers fancied doing a modified Tuscan for GT racing.

Any progress with your origional idea Bert?

The thing that would probably screw up what I think is a great idea is the issue of weight, its 1100 kgs in GT, i am not sure what a Tuscan weighs but I guess it is alot less, also GTs have to have roofs. Finally will a Tuscan do 1 hour on a tank?. Having sadi that all these problems are sumountable for not a huge some of money but I can't see TVR being to chuffed if a bunch of old race cars start wipping the new Tuscans
