Hi All, Time is marching on and the Birkett will soon be upon us..

Can everyone who has offered help please drop me an e-mail on

6hrs@blackcatracing.net

and let me know

what they would like to do and, any experience ( as driver or team) what if anything they can bring with them.Plus when you can get there.

I'll be taking my car over on the friday lunchtime and probably staying at the track on friday night.

that way we can get the car scrutineered before the saturday.

The basic jobs are

1) Pit wall (signalling and someone to run it)
2) Driver babysitters ( making sure they are in the right place),preping them and the car ready to go out.
3) Spotters ( a couple of peeps around the track with comms to team manager)
4)refueling,tyres,checkover crew
5)damages/problem crew
6) Team manager
7) Food - (possibly my mum :0 )
8) PR,( I know its only small but it would be nice to be able to issue hourly bullitins on ph and to any spectators..

The outline plan is to split the sessions equally between the 5 or 6 cars we have ( depending on fuel capacity)

at all times we should have

a) 1 car on the track ( with transponder!!)
b) 1 car in pits with driver strapped in, warm engine and ready to go ( with Transponder)
c) 1 car 2nd inline in pits, ready to go, with driver in pits or on pit wall
d) the other cars should be checked over and tyres/ fuel done as soon as they come in and be ready outside the pit garage. Driver location should always be known.
as soon as a car comes off the track the transponder need to be swapped to the waiting car.

Things that will adjust session time( team manager will decide on this)

1) Saftey car periods.
2) Car Problems
3) Lap times dropping off significantly
4) changes in weather i.e. rain

The handicap assumes each car does an equal share of the running, if it doesnt then they adjust the handicap.
2)

I'll try and come up Friday afternoon/evening too. Would it be worth someone bringing a bike in case we need to recover a transponder from a car stuck over on the other side of the circuit somewhere?

Andy, have you heard from TVR whether you can get an engine?

with all the, er, changes going on at TVR I had held off pushing this.

Will now pursue it. There is no problem getting an engine. There is a slightly bigger problem on whether I have to pay extra for it...

Less than 3 weeks to go, and I'm really looking forward to this!!!

Andy, do you know if you'll have an engine in the car, or will you be pedalling with your feet?

Not sure what time I'll get there yet - depends if I can get the day or afternoon off work, but I'll try and get there in time to get scrutineered on Friday.

Hi chaps

I have just let Graham know that I'm not going to be able to make it with the Tuscan.

TVR will supply the engine, but at full Tuscan Challenge £££s. That, combined with my decision to sell the car (it is very shiney at the moment) and a considerable shortfall in funds from the season just gone, conspire to keep me on the pitwall this time

I will do my best to come along though

Probably the right decision Andy - it would be silly to risk all of next season - especially with TVR not feeling like entering to the spirit of things. I take it the decision to sell the car is related to replacing it with an even shinier version ?

I've canned our Winter series due to too many contacts with the wall this year. Money is going into winter testing instead in a bid to elevate myself from the midfield.

If funds permit then yes, that's the plan (although I'll need a very big sack of funds!!!). I will be very, very sad to see the car go. It seems odd, but I think you form a bond with your race car in a way that just doesn't happen with a road car.

To be fair to TVR they are running a business... I was asked whether we would win the race - despite my absolute confidence in Team PH, I had to concede it was unlikely. A good shot at winning might have persuaded TVR to waive the engine fee.

Never mind. Onwards and upwards

Its a real shame, but the sad fact is that in the end motorsport comes down to money every time.... or more usually the lack of it

AN 04 challenge car out there would have been somthing to stick one over on the Morgan plus 8's and the radicals.. but hey ho...

there is one tuscan but it nearer a 64 than an 04....

interestingly the car with the lowest lap time isnt a radical but a TR7 V8 !!!!

I' can't think of anyone that might be interested in the tuscan :countingpenniessmiley: does it come in pink...

If I read the timings right theres 1:20 to qualify the cars. Now if we say 3 cars per team, isn't that going to be fairly tight/cosey out on the circuit?

yep qualifying is quite fraught.. the average is nearer 5 cars per team and 42 teams... so thats a min of 210 cars...

they limit the total on track at any one time to about 42 as they would in an open pitlane day.

all you do in qually really is get your 3 laps in per car/driver and then only go out again if you need to check for a problem.

the start positions are all decided on the handicap so no point in going for a banzi lap... in fact last year i got told off by our team for going to hard in qually..

Right just got the word from gareth, hes had to build a new sprint engine for their last race the weekend before, and as that now needs to last next season he can't risk it in an enduro..

Soooo

the Team is now 4 cars ( pending last min change of heart by tvr)

tasmin,westie,mg,ginetta.

now if we can get fuel capacity up and run consistant times with no problems we are actually in with a shout for a reasonable result.

anyone got a number for fueltanks-r-us...
