Christ!

Speaking of rallying near misses, it reminded me of this one:

Volkswagwn have confirmed Jari-Matti Latvala will be joining them next year:

No surprise after the Ford news.

It probably pre-empted the Ford news.
Wow, never saw that one coming..... wink
Won’t be easy for JML - Ogier is already No1 - he’s been there for almost a year, and will have had everything done ‘his way’. JML will be going into Ogier’s team.
So 2 Factory teams and a Finn in each one – Joukhi strikes again....

Anyone think that P Solberg will drive privately next year? I can't see him leaving..

I’ve seen something were both Solberg & Ostberg have said they are no longer paying for a drive. However, since Ford pulled out what will happen now? Do M-Sport run rich Privateers, or ‘proper’ drivers – if they can get some kind of sponsorship – and Qatar have been mentioned. Solberg, Ostberg & Al Attiyah..???

I heard that M-Sport are linked with Qatar as well. If Ostberg was given the same car as Solberg and JML this year I think he would have been right on the pace

Ostberg has been superb this year, he was certainly driving the balls off the car at Rally GB!

As for Latvala's move to VW its going to be a facsinating battle between him and Ogier! I wonder how he will cope without the support he had at Ford when/if things start to go a bit wrong as he is still very mentally fragile, and has looked like a man on the edge at times this year!

Ogier has been appearing in the top 10 this year, despite having an S2000 car and he was right on Loebs pace at times in the Citroen. Therefore I think JML will have a hard time even if they are treated equally.

Are we about to replace one dominant Frenchman with another?

So in the first few stages Ford make crazy tactical decisions, Latvala has a puncture, Neuville rolls losing 6 minutes and Loeb crashes out for the day! Whats goingto happen next!

When JML has a problem he pushes really hard thus making mistakes. Annoying!
He needs to come back calm and collected.

Must be the first non-turbo stage win since the days of Bugalski and Puras in the Xsara KitCar?

What a crazy day, I cant remember so much carnage under normal conditions!

I wonder what the odds are on Ogier getting on the podium, let alone winning the event!?

Crazy crazy day in Spain!

Loeb getting his braking wrong after a dud pace note.

Neuville retiring after burning his fingers writing his car.

Latvala pushing too hard after his puncture yesterday.

And Solberg crashing out too!
Not goin too well for the Ford factory team again!!

Ogier stuns with a fasted stage time after many wrc cars struggle with tyre wear in the stages.
Eithe Tanak or Novikov ran part of one stage in road mode to save losing his tyres completely.

Mads Ostberg tweeted a pic of the wear on one set, can't copy and paste it as I'm on mobile, and it was basically no rubber left on one tyre and down to the woven material that makes up the tyre!
He thought he had mechanical issues but turned out it was just the tyres, well before he lost his rear diff on the next stage!
