CJ aka the Stig was the Stig long before there was a Stig on Top Gear! Best known for building one of the best LoCost racing cars and then destroying it! He then went on to build a concours version of an Ultama.

Is it me - or am I getting confused - but are some of the contestants from well-known motorsport families. Also some have clearly competed at things in the padt - one was a motorcross champion or something - I assume that I licence wasn't needed??

Natash Firman is the daughter of Ralph Firman Snr, who is doing some consultancy work for Mazda. Her brother Ralph jr is an ex Grand Prix driver. Natasha's car is sponsored by Halfords.

Jessica Eaves is the sister of touring car driver Dan Eaves (Dan is also sponsored by Halfords). Dan works for and is managed by Vic Lee Racing. Vic Lee Racing run Philip Glew in Formula BMW.

Rachel Kimber is a singer songwriter, she is managed by John Brand who also manages the Stereofonics! John Brand also sponsors Philip Glew.

Some of the girls had lappsed licences, however only one lady was truthful about it and she was thrown out!

The 50 was made up of various characters; there are a few genuine novices in there who are talented.

They were planning to run a summer series, but there are rumours that this has been cancelled because it is over priced.

Hopefully most women will follow Stig and Hels' advice and go racing.

Stig is your LoCost site still live, even Ron Champion used to use it as the example of how it is done.

Why? You've copied and pasted the entire effing thread anyway onto your 'luggage' forums.

Truth is hard to find, they say - especially when it's 'deleted', or 'removed'.

I happen to know that mazbagz believe in the freedom of speech - even Graeme Glue himself would be allowed to 'flame-on' there.

If you think it's only about 'luggage', you should learn to read between the lines dear boy.

Having watched the FW programs a few times on video(sad I know!!) I have a few points to raise.
1) Why has there been no insight into the selection process? A lady solicitor was eliminated on the first day of 'boot camp' because of a fitness issue/sporting injury but 'Toria' who has never done any of the fitness work because of an long term injury(and if you notice in the programme was never seen doing the fitness work or early morning run) was eliminated then reinstated and eventually ending up in the last 16???
2) One of the main events of the first program was that the women were being trained to control an oversteering car. Why in the race at Oulton were they so bad at this, on a dry track?
3) In the first program the selection process came to a halt when Emma Hayles spun off the track(the previous two contestants having negotiated the course successfully). Mr Harvey then declared the session should be abandoned as it was too dangerous despite an obvious dry line on the track! The session was then re-scheduled for another time(this allowing Toria to be re-instated and Emma not to be eliminated!). On the day of the re-scheduled test it was dry in the morning for practice but in the afternoon was seen to tip it down with rain. There was no obvious dry line present, the track had an obvious sheen on it, but this was deemed to be safer than the track a week earlier??? Two contestants benefitted, Toria and Emma, both went on to be in the last 16!!
3) In programme 2 at Oulton Park, Mr Glew was speaking to Toria about her attitude and approach to racing.Mr Glew was then quoted as saying 'it's not the right frame of mind for a racing driver'. You picked her Mr Glew, surely you had enough time to come to this conclusion before the first race! So again, how were the 16 chosen?
4)In the program we were informed that Natasha Firman had a private race tuition session at Oulton before the race. Didn't this give her an advantage over the other contestants?
5)Who's the VT Editor? He did a great job, 50 minutes of racing into 9-10 minutes. I was at Oulton to watch both races, I was bored rigid. I wish I had not bothered and just watched the race highlights!
6) One of the contestants, Max I believe, was quoted as saying 'if anyone get's in my way I'll knock them off!' Is this what it takes to race in FW?
To end with a few questions for Lauren:

Why were you and some helpers changing your tyres/wheels surely there are trained mechanics to do this?
Your off was in the second race but you had spotted that the wheels/tyres were on incorrectly before the second race.Didn't you have time to rectify this?

And by the way I support you as so far you have been the outstanding racer of the field, even managing to correct your off at Oulton while other caused danger to themselves and others.

Fizzgig brings up some interesting points. In the programme the character "Toria" was given a pet talk about being to too happy! Surely we want our racers to be pleasent to the public?

The man in charge then said he got Toria to turn off her heater. It is a common fact if you have the heater and fan on full blast, you get a small (but crucial!)power increase!

Hmm, I seem to have a few of those e-mails, too. Rafe: don't e-mail me again, there's a good chap. I've rather more interesting things to do than comment on some farcical TV series. God only knows how this thread has made it to 12 pages - it could be summarised in 12 lines...

Why? The fan motor must take a quite a few watts of energy, depriving that energy (however small) from the drivetrain.

Oi! I didn't destroy it It was those other pesky racers who kept ploughing into me

The car is still going strong and despite only sporadic appearances in the Championship, I'm still a consistent top 10 finisher.

There are rumours that the MSA are going to can this experiment! The all woman "Summer series" has not attracted enough entries and now may not happen. At £3000 race in a completely standard Mazda, it has turned into an expensive folly. The all woman factor was blown out of the water by the man in car No. 13!

Hello James,

Just to help you out here as you seem to suffering the same degree of what I can only call ignorance as your close friend (ie yet another alias) Lachlan Cedric.

Just to clear this up. I am legally a woman end of.

I have never ever been a man. If I had why the hell would I go through what i have done?

Also like others have said I finished all treatments years ago way before FW was even thought of. Another way to look at it is that wouldn't it be totally ludicrous to say that I went through gender reaasignment in order to enter this competition?

As for me announcing it on TV last week and the NOTW article I was totally cornered by the media so there was literally nothing I could do but be open about it which has been a real pain as I was quite happy getting on with my life and normally do not tell people (apart from the odd close friend). So now I have to get used to everyone knowing my private life on a national scale which is what I (and my boyfriend) could have seriously done without.

Why people find this subject so interesting I can sort of understand but i feel it is a crying shame that the media and particularly the gutter press do nothing to help the publics' understanding of such a complex issue and can do no better than to take the p** out of those of us that find ourselves in such an unenviable situation as mine.

As for Lechlan being old fashioned I read that as ignorant I am afraid (not intending to offend you James as you have done me). Think of this; Jodie Foster has XY chromosones, do you consider her a man?

Just to finish off I cannot see that I have any advantages over any of the other girls as I am bottom average in fitness in comparison and there are a fair few other drivers who have much more physical strength and endurance than I do. Furthermore as for any mental advantage, well I have always been female in mind, though that my head has been hormonally messed up for the first half of my life it is a small wonder that i'm still sane!

I understand that some of you guys may have your issues and I guess i'm not on some crusade to educate the world, but they are *your* issues not mine at the end of the day.

I really hope this helps.

Hi Lauren,

I am sorry I have never met you or spoken to you! I was told there was a man in the final of Formula Woman by an instructor at Silverstone; then you confirmed it on ITV! It is well known I am not a fan of Mr Glew or his circus. However I wish you luck in your racing career. How about joining the Tuscans next year? Come and take on the real boys!

Lauren,

It is very brave of you to face the tabloid press. I have a couple of questions for you, that you might be able to clear up.

1. Katherine Legge was harshly treated by Harvey and Glew and her father has told his story elsewhere. What is your take on this?

2. Amy Chambers was thrown out on camera for having a licence. I know of at least 2 other girls that hold licences. Do you think they should have included this in the programme?

3. Toria Hardy took no part in the fitness tests, but made the 16! The solicitor Penny was thrown out for a minor injury. What is the story there?

Good luck in your race ar Brands Hatch. Perhaps you can ask Ted for some "Pistonheads" stickers for your RX8!

Hi, don't mind me, I'm as shallow as a puddle.
So, was she born a female, with XY chromosones, or did she have gender re-assignment?

My spelling is awful too btw.

If I seem to remember (from my degree) that its only 1 gene on the Y chromasone which enables the male characheristics to develop- if this gene is faulty or not present, then the foetus grows at the default setting- ie female.

Soryr if this sounds a bit mechanical, but its the easiest way I remembered it when I was studying!

Personally I don't believe Lauren's private life should be the subject of gossip online or off.

'nuff said on this matter.
