I have just watched the Silverstone GP that I taped from Sunday and fell asleep.Again during a GP.

So thats it. I have neither the patience nor the inclination to watch another. This is a sad day.
Having been a loyal F1 fan since the early 80's, I can honestly say I've had enough of it now. It started getting poor just before Murray Walker left and only carried on momentum to the point of being the poor excuse for exciting motorsport it is now.
I did give F1 a chance to improve, but the powers that be have not delivered the goods.
I remember a time when the anticipation of a GP was consuming and electric, and the race itself was all it was expected to be. A time when I even enjoyed qualifying. Seems an eternity ago.

Do something to make the drivers race and not overtake in the pits.

Perhaps they should do away with refuelling and limit the teams to one tire change per race.

Anyone else think he sometimes looks more like a Terminator than Arnie did?

No, but I can picture him in an SS officers uniform.

I used to work for an F1 team which meant I got free tickets to the Silverstone GP along with centre transfers and I fell asleep every year.

Well I camped at the circuit and had a great 3-day party with a load of mates. We all enjoyed the racing weekend, which was not limited to F1. the Maseratis were a hoot.

I'll be going again next year - horses for courses I guess.

Just start watching MotoGP instead - more overtaking in one lap than an entire season of F1. And more character in one rider's little finger than a whole line up of F1 pilots

Did you hear Mark's after race comment - "I saw at least 25 overtakes in that one." Oh, so THAT was exciting then... and Silverstone's been one of the more interesting ones. Oh and don't even get me started on the Rosenthal "it's a bit like football" problem.

I still watch F1 pre race, the start and the finish, recording the highlights show for any interesting stuff. Sorry, F1 but you're just dull, dull, dull, duzzzzzzzz

I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend soiree Angus.

But I think you are missing the point. You are comparing a 3 day event at the location, to how most of the general public watch the GP. On TV.

Are you going to do the same at Hockenheim? If not, do you think you will have as much fun watching it on TV and having to listen to James Allen like everyone else?

I honestly don't mean to negate your reply, but its not really 'horses for courses'. As I have followed F1 for over 20 years. But falling asleep infront of the TV now is not my idea of riveting motorsport.

...or the SuperBikes. Anyone see James Toseland and Regis Laconi duking it out at Laguna Seca last night? Now that was racing! And they're team mates .

I have followed F1 since about 1965 (when you couldn't even see it on TV) and ardently on telly since it started to be shown regularly (1978). I can honestly say that this really is the most tedious period I have ever known. I am also not looking back at "old" F1 through rose tinted spectacles. I have virtually every Gtand Prix highlights programme since the 1983 season on video. I occasionally pull down a tape and watch (say) four or five races from 1985 or 1986 and, believe me, there was FAR more track action back then - and they DID have pitstops too, although only for tyres.

Hockenheim's a bad example mate - I'll be there too Leaving for Germany next monday and will cruise to the GP in a hired Carrera 4 courtesy of rental car upgrades D

Your point about James Allen is well made. He is an arse of the first order.

What I don't get is that if it is so boring, how come the global viewing figures for the British GP were quoted in the press as over 400 million?

That particular statement I do not have an answer for, if it is indeed accurate.

But you only have to read 90 odd% of the comments on this and other threads relating to how boring F1 has become, to get my drift.

Yep. Ten of us at the track, Woodcote grandstand, and TWO fell asleep during the race, one of whom was dressed head to toe (including trainers) in Ferrari gear - just a bit of a fan. If it's that boring, then what hope is there?

Those two guys paid more attention to the Maserati race than the F1. Very telling.

If you were the group of ten who were camped near us at Whittlebury then I'd say it was because you consumed an obscene amount of Stella, partied until 5am, when your fire died down so you threw on your deck chairs. You then fell asleep but were woken by the group of young boys waking you with their airhorns as revenge for keeping their mums awake all night
