Late posting, we're in good old Alabama this weekend at Talladega.
This is a restrictor plate track, for those who are new to NASCAR the plate is used to limit engine power, simply by stopping as much air getting in to the engine. Generally NASCAR like to keep speeds to 200ish. Brad Keselowski got asked how fast an unrestricted car could go here, he said 240mph.
This is also an impound race.
Some pundits say we wont see the draft here because cars are overheating too quick and we are more likely to see pack racing. Not sure about that, I guess we'll see.
Not seeing too much news other than Kurt Busch running a "Ricky Bobby" scheme.
No trucks until the 18th so just Nationwide and Sprint Cup this weekend.
Cup practice is on right now.
Nationwide race is live on Motors TV Saturday at 8pm.
Cup race will start at about 6:15pm our time on Sunday.
Nationwide qualifying got rained out yesterday so they will start in championship points order.

Danica is not in the cup car this weekend, nationwide only.
Seems speeds will be just under the 200mph in cup, not sure about nationwide. Incredibly they were doing 200mph here back in the 70s when they were "real" cars. I think it was Bobby Alisons crash here in the 80s that made them start using restrictor plates.
Couple of big crashes last night in the ARCA race, no one hurt but it certainly got a bit messy.

Have at it boys and uhh girls too I guess.
Huge hit for McClure, I hope he's ok. Slightly worried how the guy with the fire extinguisher ran straight to the car, like he saw something bad, lets hope the seat or belts didn't break.
Other than that interesting race, lets hope the cup race is slightly less eventful though.

The update on McClure is that he was kept in overnight for observation, he's got pain in his right leg and arm and is generally a bit sore, but he's going to be okay. Family have been to see him and he was alert and talkative.
Also saw a tweet from Danica that said she'd been to see Hornish and they are okay, he had a deflating front tire that "explains both incidents" she says.
Onwards to Cup at just after 6pm tonight.

SAFER barrier more than doing its job there methinks, as that was a monstrous hit. As was stated upthread, Talladega is one of those races I watch through my hands. Find it distasteful how "The Big One" is almost used as a marketing slogan, but you still sort of have to watch. Odd. I guess as long as the teams and drivers accept it, that's all there is to it really.Danica needs talking to for that little moment of petulance. Stupid thing to do.

SAFER barrier definitely prooved its worth once again. The McClure hit was horrible, just seemed to drive straight in without hardly slowing. Nasty nasty nasty.
Watching it again, it's also fortunate he didn't t-bone the 43, who was already against the wall. Could've been a horrible side impact.Don't really like either of the Busch brothers... but can't help thinking it would be funny if the 51 won.

I thought premier sports was supposed to be commercial free, how come we just had 5 minutes of adverts (for their own programmes admittedly)?
just hope as we dont get the goddamn 3m one!
They don't normally show commercials once the race has started. During the pre-race it's fair dos, not like there's anything to watch while the US is on commercial break, apart from people milling around.just hope as we dont get the goddamn 3m one!
A few years back Motors TV used to have a French chap that provided some commentary while the US was off on commercials. I remember on one occasion where two US commercial breaks were separated by about 60 seconds of race coverage he said something like "and back again, damn yanks always got to be selling something"
