IMO his reasons for staying in the sport have been purely financial for a number of years now.

I think he knows that he is pants as an F1 driver

Some classic DC cock-ups from 1995....

Coulthard lead the field away on the parade lap. He was not to finish it. In some disbelief we watched as the Williams went out of control at the exit of the Ascari chicane, spinning to a halt on the grass, tail into the fence.

David proved without doubt that the dumbest thing you can do is to crash whilst in the lead of the race, (except crashing on the warm-up lap - he managed that at the Italian Grand Prix that year.) However, it is dumber is to crash in the pits!

When faced with the sharp right in the pit lane, Coulthard failed to slow sufficiently and understeered into the outside pit wall.

Still trying to get my head round how he kept an F1 seat for another 9 years?!!

So, a podium every 2.8 races. And most of those were in the first 4-5 years of his career.

Well, they can't all win can they? The bloke's in the twilight of his career, and yet you can't help kicking him when he's down.

Pathetic.

Agreed, particularly when this year's car has not been exactly outstanding has it? It was only the last race that Kimi overtook DC in the points table.

It was meant to be light hearted for crying out loud.

As for knocking a man when he's down...DC has hardly ever been up has he? Spent his GP career in competitive cars yet has consistently failed to deliver. Ok, lots of podiums, but look at the machinery he's had at his disposal. The same machinery as Damon Hill, Jacques Villeneuve and Mika Hakkinen...four World titles between them. What has DC achieved in the same time with the same cars? Ah, always going to be his year next year isn't it...about time he let someone else have a crack at it really. How are younger drivers supposed to climb up the ladder when someone like DC is nailed to a top drive for no discernable reason?

He's the GP version of Paul Tracy.

Jeeez, don't feel to sorry for the guy. As we speak he will be on his gin palace thinking up schemes on how his already vast fortune can get bigger, only stopping every now and again to recall how he managed to lose it on the parade lap!! Muppet!

The only thing that annoys me about DC is that whilst he's making a dogs breakfast of qualifying then trundling around anonymously for a point or two, he's keeping people like Manning, Wheldon, Wilson and Davidson out of the frame.

This is the most sensible thing written on the subject.

Get Coulthard out - he's the equivalent of a bed-blocker
