damn the #41 TVR with the flying kane and hughes got absolutely mullered by the audi, big time frontal damage on the TVR after the audi was tipped into a spin by a ferrari and then cannoned into the tiv whilst it was in the bus stop meaning it had no place to run, damn shame as the driver reckon they had the pace to win the class, backed up by the fact that their best lap so far was only a few tenths off the leading porsche

Was there today. Great day out. Just got back. The TVR Audi crash happened right in front of me and could have been a very nasty incident. A millisecond later and the Audi would have broadsided the TVR full on. This was the aftermath:

This is the part of the track it happened. The Audi just came bombing up the green escape road and straight across the bus stop just as the TVR was where the two cars in the picture below are.

I didn’t know about the spin caused by the Ferrari at the time. The Audi was going straight on when I saw it going down the escape road, not spinning, so I just assumed he’d missed his braking point or had brake failure or something. The Audi disappeared after the crash. I didn’t see it leave the scene of the accident but it must have limped off up the pit lane because there was a load of oil dumped there. Beats me how it was still able to move after that impact.

There were lots of other incidents. The safety car was called out 5 times in all. Sadly both the other two TVR’s and the Rollcentre and Lister Storm cars all failed to make it to the finish. The yellow De-Walt TVR disappeared about 20 mins from the end which must have been particularly gutting for them.

I didn’t see the Rollcentre crash but saw the wreck which looked nasty and then saw an ambulance twice, once on the way from the scene of the accident and then again loading up the helicopter by the medical centre Does anyone know which driver was in it at the time and if they are OK?

the driver in the rollcentre car was patrick pearce, he's ok he got airlifted to hospital and suffered heavy concussion but nothing else luckily. the audi exploded into flames after meeting with the tiv, that looks a shocking mess and there was nothing the TVR could have done about it by then, it was 3rd at the time wasn't it?

Amazing shots Gary. Thanks for sharing them
TVR are really not having luck go there way are they.
2005 will be their first glory year!

Check the 'action' shots of the accident here:

Kaffa must at the very least get some punishment for driving a fire ball back
to the pits and down right down the pit lane to his garage. :nono;#:

Hmmm...thanks for spamming the speedpcis.nl site, this is a populair website cos it generates more traffic than dailysportscars.com...

Bartus(who thinks the deathpenalty should be reintroduced for demolishing a TVR)((especially if the responsible is German...yes...)))

While I agree that someone shpuld have stopped the #8 Audi before he drove the full length of the pits I will play devils advocate.

At the time, Kaffa wasn't aware how bad the fire was.
I can't honestly believe he didn't know - just look at the photos on the previous
link or watch the TV footage.

The car was engulfed by flames (including the cockpit) a blink of an eye after impact with
the unfortunate TVR.

What is still a mystery to me is how he failed to slow down after being 'tapped'
into the escape road by another car?

Hmmm...spamming seems to be a "long-toe-subject" in these digi-neighbourhoods...Anyway, if you look at the pics which are now all there you will see that he did not even TRY to slow down. On that surface his wheels would have locked immediatly and there is no sign of that...maybe that is also why he did not even tried and kept his fingers crossed because it rather hard to steer, or even brake down, an R8 on grass...

The Audi then burt into flames and with three wheels decided to make its way down the rest of the pitlane (the Audi Garage being the pit exit and the furthest point).

Not very impressive when you consider with three quarters of the car on fire by the time it passed us (half way down the pitlane).

The driver doodled past all of us, (We like fire really we do!!) and also our fuel rigs, again - we had just pitted so was wheeling out our drum of fuel.

Quite frankly if PC didn't realise his car was on fire, (as was suggested to one journalist) perhaps he should be driving the car in the first place....

As for PP in the Rollcentre Dallara, the car took the impact very well, there was a considerable amount of damage to the car, but it will be back on the track. Partick was taken to a Belgium Hospital and is recovering, the car certainly did its job,

Its a real shame as Joao had done a briliant job in the car and it was running third, it would have been a very good result and one we had all worked for, after Le Mans we hoped our luck had changed, but been in Motorsport long enough now to know it aint over till the fat lady sings...

That aside glad Patrick is ok, cars can be fixed, people can't.... Audi Driver you are off my XMAS Card List..

Bartus, try steering a car that is at speed, partly on wet grass as can be seen in at least 2 of the photos, close to the armco (he has just hit it afterall) and then brake heavily - either nothing will happen or the 2 wheels on the tarmac will lock up, snatch some grip and pitch the car into a spin and the wall, possibly sending the car back across the track into the path of others.

Everyone seems to be judge and jury on this incident, well I'm neither a Clerk of the Course or a Steward so I won't pass judgement other than to say Mr Kaffer has been a bit silly.

LBlack, I agree that cars on fire in the pitlane with all the fuel rigs etc around is a bloody dangerous thing, he really should have thought things through more.

Glad Pat is OK cars can be repaired a lot easier than a person.[quote=Bartus]...Anyway, if you look at the pics which are now all there you will see that he did not even TRY to slow down. On that surface his wheels would have locked immediatly and there is no sign of that...[quote]

Warren was very lucky, not as lucky as the guys in the LHD porsches (in front and behind warren)who could have been hit in the LH side door. The worst thing about the incident was that the TVR was P3, 20ish seconds behind the leader but the TVR had already pitted for fuel and was in effect 1min 30 in the lead, and on the leaders pace (holding 2nd fastest race lap at that time)....more develoment mods to come over the winter........looks good for next year.

Hi Lawrence

Good of you to take a moment to reply and to have met you at Silverstone a few weeks back

I really felt for you guys when I heard the news and hope Warren has no after effects.

Thanks for such entertaining racing in 2004, you came so close so many times and I wish you
every success in 2005.

lawrence as in tomlinson, of RSR? well congratulations those TVR's are absolutely flying and its such a shame that the car you were driving was hit they were looking awesome on TV, great to hear that you are going to carry on developing the car for next year. i think what everyone wants to know is though, are they going to be TVR purple or RSR orange next year?

good luck, P.S. are you going to try and keep Kane and hughes services for next year? thats a pair of quick drivers!!

I was probably stood next to you when you took those photos of the TVR. Missed the actual accident. Had just left the Bus Stop to walk down to Blanchimont. Walked the entire track during the LMES race. Sat at the bottom of Eau Rouge for the start, and ended up back there about 10 laps from the end. Amazing circuit.

Hi, I'm new to this forum but I've got something to share. Was there in SPA last weekend and took some pictures of the TVR while they were dismanteling it (even went home with the carbon fibre bootlid, wonder what that would fetch on eBay) and also of the pitline completely covered in smoke...anyone interested in these pictures, can someone tell me how to post them?
