Then and now...

This one must've been taken by my grandfather as the lanky chap with the bad posture is my dad - he'd have been 15 at the time. This is Tony Dean perching on his Porsche 906. Many years later my dad and I saw his son Richard race in Rover Tomcats. I hope one day I can have a son to take to race meetings too.
I've inherited quite a few old shots from my dad. I'll get them up over the winter while I've no contemporary racing to write about.

Cigars not pictured ...Tony Dean was the local hero when I were a lad(brought up near Castleford where TD had his garage). Fond memories of him blitzing Formula Libre races at Rufforth in his (Can Am winning) Porshe 908 and annihilating FF1600s at Croft in his Chevron B24 (for younger readers this was a 500bhp V8 Formula 5000 car - which was a bit pokier than the wheezy 100bhp Ford crossflow in Lotus 61 s and the like)

Searching for photo`s for this topic reminded me of my Grand Prix International magazines, does any of you Grand Prix buffs want them??
I have everyone?(two or three missing I think)from number one January 1979 to end of production in 1986.
A lot of the issues covered WRC & sports cars as well.I also have 28 Indy Car mags from USA,Nigel Mansell`s time.
I have the full set of GPI. It was a great publication in its day. Way ahead of its time.I have everyone?(two or three missing I think)from number one January 1979 to end of production in 1986.

Small world - I work in Castleford now! Coincidentally I was brought up in Chester where Red Rose Motors ran a lot of Chevrons in period. That was many years before I was born mind...Now Richard Dean is running United Autosports in Yorkshire still - all power to the lad.
Oh and just as an aside, did anyone read about Greg Thornton's Chevron B24 being destroyed in a fire at his workshops? Awful news.
