What was the point of this parade? From the pitlane it looked like the queue to get out - I honestly don't get it.
You strike me as someone who is very smug. As a guest of the Pistonhead's Parade lap I thoroughly enjoyed my three laps of Silverstone. It is something I probably won't have the chance to do again and by lap three we were doing considerably more than 35mph.
You describe yourself as a "spanner monkey" so wield those spanners and STFU.
It really annoys me when "little people" are ridiculed by people like you.

it means different things to different people, if you've never been on a race track, especially at GP circuit the chance to drive your own car round the circuit on a race day is something special, if you've raced round it for hundreds of laps, or spent days in the sun/rain/fog stood on the pit wall, slept in the pit garages etc etc it's just something that means you get to go home a bit later !!I had similar thoughts on an f1 test day.. I was invited down by a supplier and there was big buzz about some of us being allowed a pit lane walk about during the lunch time. my host was really excited when he came back with some passes for us, I'd have rather stayed in the bar but he was so excited i went along.. he had a big grin on his face and looked like a kid in a sweet shop as he'd never been near a race car never mind an f1 car.. I just thought yep looks like silverstone pit lane to me.... but then 3-4 times a month im at a race track driving or running cars.
At the end of the day if it means a few more spectators feel part of the racing they might come back with friends...:-)
Well said Graham.
Why restrict it to clubs? Let some of the paying punters drive 3 laps, for say, £20 (behind a SC). As you say, it all adds to the experience and encourages people to come back. wouldn't work at every event - but there wasn't exactly an abundance of track activity last weekend.

Here are a couple of snaps from the pitlane.
I love the idea of ordinary punters getting to do a few laps behind the safety car. I've done pretty much everything Graham mentioned in his first paragraph but I can understand exactly the excitement of taking your own car for a sedate lap around the track.
