The pink pig. The story behind that is the most amusing.
Well? Go on then......!
Alright then... very briefly... The car (Porsche 917/20) was entered in the 24Hs of LM by an Austrian team (Auto Usdau) in 1971. The sponsor was Martini International. In preparation to the race the team asked a French engineering company to modify the car to make it faster. They changed the body work. When the Porsche mechanics arrived at LM they found the car rather ugly and decided to paint it in pig pink. During qualifying on Thursday the car was still white. On race day it had the pink pig livery. To top that, there was no Martini livery on the car what so ever. Sadly, the Pink Pig retired during the race due to injection problems. The drivers were Willy Kauhsen and a certain Reinhold Joest.
Martini used to do some of the best liveries. The white Porsche 911 with the subtle blue and red striped flash down the waistline which later gave way to the silver 911's with the Martini stripes:
Plus of course the Martini Lancia Deltas later took up the baton with the Martini colours.

as someone who does liveries for some teams, then I'd have to say the 7-Up Jordan and JPS is pretty special, helped by the vehicle form. Always liked the original Gulf livery and was lucky enough to have done the McLaren GTR's in Gulf liveries and the Audi UK entry last year (which nicked the design )
Other stand out designs for me would be the GTi Engineering Canon Porsche, the Ligier as sown before and the Martini Porsche in the 70's.
Often, if you can use the surface lines of the car to enhance the livery, it will look much better, unfortunately many companies wont take that chance!

Interesting that most people remember the sportscars livery rather than F1. In this day and age of brand equity, surely sportscars are better vehicles (cringe) to use as mobile placcards?

And he was still catching the wet-shod Jag in front of him at a stupendous rate.
(Can't ever forgive Ludwig for trying to do an extra lap early in the race in that car, which resulted in 3/4 of a lap on the starter motor to bring it back to the pits - and they lost by less than a minute... Bugger.)

<pedant mode> It was actually from Maison Blanche, about 2 miles from the pits. Pretty awsome battery and starter motor though. Thank gawd he did run out, otherwise Jaguar No.2 would not have made me cry....
