To bad Adam Weller or Daniel Hart did not make the final three

Hi John,

I have never heard of these two; but I know Rui Chagas as he tested a Formula 3 car for Reon last year. He also had a poor year in the Seat Cupra cup. Rui is hardly a new find! However he does have money and the organiser knows that!

However Rui is a great guy and it would be nice to see him win.

Thanks. That took me 3 hours that did . The lines are a bit wobbly, but practicve makes perfect (allegedly).

Indeed it does

I will keep working on the designing thing, but first I have to convince my parents that I can work hard enough and be good enough so that car design isn't too difficult for me. I want to go to Coventry and do Trnasport Design like my cousin, but they're unwilling to let me at the moment. But I still have 5 years to work on them

I've heard that Coventry is a great place to study Automotive (??) Design. Maybe you could go on to do an MA at The Royal College of Art. Oh dear! Best not put fancy ideas in your head at this early stage. It is difficult to persuade your parents that you really will succeed in your chosen or dream field. Parents are pretty good judges though. I wanted to do fashion design in my mid-teens. Thankfully my mother put me off. I sometimes wish I'd listened to her an studied English and not photography. I do love photography though.

Keep working hard!

I see you like Ford Mustangs and the AM DB9 - two excellent choices

I saw my first 'Stang in the Haynes Motor Museum, and I thought is looked fantastic. I saw a concept in the May issue of EVO and it looked great. Then they revealed another concept which was plain and quite dull.

And the DB9, well...it's just amazing isn't it? Like all AMs are.

I was meant to do a project over the holidays which was drawing a car in each style mentioned in a brilliant book called Car Design by Paolo Tumminelli which Danger Mouse gave to me for Christams. To be fair, it was quite a big challenge which meant drawing 20 cars in 10 days, but to be honest, only having finished one when I'm meant to be doing the last two tomorrow is pathetic, really. Although I'm sure that if I was at University with a possible job to follow I would be able to motivate myself

www.teneues.de/cgi-bin/Atlantis/teNeues.store/INT/-/store.asp?DisplayProduct/-/3-8238-4561-6-SEARCH

That's the book, which I recommend. As far as I can tell (), the guy really knows his stuff. Plus you finish it really quickly when you only have to read a quarter of it (it's in English, German, French and Spanish, but strangely, given the author's name, not Italian)

If I couldn't be a car designer, I'd like to be an automotive journalist.

This is a gorgeous example of a GT 500:

The newer Mustangs lack the style, appeal and muscular looks of the older models from the sixties and early seventies.

That sounds like a lot of drawing. I thought you were supposed to have a holiday at Christmas
If I may judge a book by its cover, that looks very interesting. I shall have to take a look next time I visit Waterstones.

I'm sure that with your enthusiasm, your knowledge of cars and your excellent command of the English language you would do very well

That's exactly how I ended up doing what I do (as a kid, I wanted to be a car designer or F1 pilot ) - OK with er, a couple of diversions like being a pop journo...

Morning Emma

What a brilliant picture! That's going to be saved on my computer I think.

You can't get the Car Design book at Waterstone's according to the website, but I could ask DM where he got it if you like.

Unfortunately he's moved recently, so I don't know if he got it in a shop near me or not

I've just realised - I've completely hijacked this thread! Oops. Sorry.

Cool! I'd like to be either the next Ian Callum or the next Jeremy Clarkson

Nice car and the report is hilarious.

if you have the ISBN (usually found somewhere on the back cover) then any good high street bookshop will be able to order it for you but most will want payment upfront.

This is the Mustang GT-R which was a concept, and I don't think they made it (but I'm probably wrong. It looks fanbloodytastic.

And this is the Mustang Coupe which they did build, which doesn't look half as good. It's still nice, but the GT-R is soo cool.

They're very similar, but the coupe doesn't have as much character IMHO.

Plus the GT-R is orange.....mmmm, orange.

Noooo! I used to like him, but he is far too arrogant these days. He is starting to really bug me. I much prefer Tiff Needel (probably spelt incorrectly).

Thanks for posting the pictures of the GT-R Mustang, lightningghost. I agree it looks awesome! It looks great in orange too The coupe is a little tame in comparison and somewhat bland. I think the front end of it is pretty weak in terms of design. It looks like it hasn't been finished properly and there is something missing.

I think we need to start another thread

Don't know why, but this is one of my favourite Mustangs - out and out muscle-car agression yet surprisingly unadorned. Critics say it's flabby, I say it's brutal, and that near-horizontal fastback window gives it striking presence.:

As for design, I like Flaminio Bertoni's approach (he did the Citroen DS) - when the car's designed and a study model's made, don't bother with fancy wheels, paint it grey and empty a dustbin over it. If it still looks good, you're on to a winner.

I don't like the weird black lip under the front (is that the bumper?), but if it wasn't there you'd have to either make the hole car lower or put some more yellow front in its place or it'd look stupid. Clear as mud.

Back on topic (but only for a minute ), is Formula Women usually on TV, cos I'd never heard of it before my teacher told me she'd applied?

Was on TV! It was to run in 2005; but has been canned because of various scandals that came to light. I have not heard of any of the girls since it finished! I believe the series was short of sponsorship and the winner (can't remember her name) did not get her prize in Formula Palmer Audi. (Thats where I heard of this website, thanks to DJ!)

I believe it is to be revamped for 2006; then we can have another laugh at the telly!

I agree with you lightningghost. That lip looks a bit like a shovel and there is a strange matching rear spoiler, just visible, that looks rather flimsy. Both look like after thoughts, not really integrating fully with the rest of the car's somewhat more decisive lines.

That front end doesn't appear as decisive and as muscular as other early Mustangs either.

I think we need to start a Mustang Appreciation Society thread. Care to join us v8thunder?
