Don't under estimate JP or JP
A budget will be in place and a drive I believe is already secure!
I can tell you from persons that are close to him that there is no budget and no race seat deal - so not sure where your info is coming from.A budget will be in place and a drive I believe is already secure!
Good luck to him if they have raised the money. I don't doubt for a moment that Palmer Snr wouldn't squeeze every penny he had to live out his F1 fantasies again via Palmer Jnr

Well, yes, but in GP2, where most of his competition is much less experienced.
I guess we'll see, if he can raise enough to buy a drive; except that could only be in a tail end team so we'll only be able to measure him against his team mate.
GP2 is billed as F1's official/premier feeder series, where drivers hone their skills in preparation for F1. I wouldn't call Johnny Cecotto, Stefano Coletti, Palmer's DAMS team-mate Stephan Richelmi, or Felipe Nasr "much less experienced".I guess we'll see, if he can raise enough to buy a drive; except that could only be in a tail end team so we'll only be able to measure him against his team mate.
Bound to be a tail-end team, where I am sure JP will do a similar impressive job to that done by the unfortunate Jules Bianchi at Marussia.
Add to the checklist: Strength of character, i.e., put to the back of the grid at Monza, from where he ended up winning race two the following day; determined drive to win race one (and the championship) at Sochi; determined drive to 10th from about last after being punted into a spin by so-called sensation Raphaele Marciello.

Hmmm... Jules Bianchi I believe is one of the best talents to come to F1 in years. He has a remarkable natural ability, and his performances in the Marussia over the past two seasons have been remarkable. I'm afraid to say that I don't think Mr Palmer is anywhere near Bianchi's level. He'd probably best Chilton, but that's not exactly hard.Oh dear..is this the 'I really don't like Jonathan Palmer' thread? He was a pretty fine driver- not world championship contender but a very quick driver in F2 and some good drives in F1. Touring cars didn't work for him - but they didn't for Derek Warwick either . JP also had the bottle to admit that Alesi destroyed his career which makes a change from the egotistical whingeing most drivers indulge in when beaten by a team mate. From what I've read of Palmer Junior he's quick and a decent lad as well . I wish him luck. And if you don't think he's that good nobody rated D Hill or N Mansell too highly before they got into F1 whereas we all thought Alex Zanardi , Jan Magnussen and JJ Lehto would be brilliant in F1 . They weren't ...

Hear, hear! For those who weren't paying attention, or are too young to remember, Jonathan Palmer won the British F3 Championship against some pretty strong opposition in 1981, followed that up with the European F2 Championship (forerunner of GP2) two years later, was the 1987 'Non-turbo World Champion' with Tyrrell, and won numerous Group C World Endurance Championship races before admitting he had missed the boat and, eventually, creating the organisation that injected much needed investment into Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Oulton and Cadwell Parks.
More power to JP's senior and junior!
Welcome JeanPierre, it seems you've followed the careers of both generations of Palmer quite closely, maybe you have some racing stories of the 'good old days' in the 80s ?

I was one of Jonathan Palmer's '£1 sticker' supporters in 1981. I was impressed that he had dovetailed competing in Modsports and then F/Ford between 1975 and 1980 with studying medicine, before giving it a 'make or break' year in F3 in '81. Although not wealthy by any means, I figured a quid wasn't a lot and so sponsored him at a pound per round of the British F3 Championship, and sent 20 quid.
I seem to recall that he effectively won the title twice, because, having clinched it with a couple of rounds to go, his car failed post-race scrutineering at the next round, having been punted up the rear which caused the rear wing to be above regulation height. The penalty was loss of X number of points, so he had to go out and win it again!
I later got involved with Justin Wilson plc, JP being Wilson's manager by that point, and met JP and JW several times at the AGM's at Brands Hatch.
I am sad that some people seem to enjoy knocking the Palmers, and can only assume it's down to jealousy at their achievements.
Cheers!

Bear in mind that this was his 4th season in GP2, after two in F2. It's taken a while......
I have to agree. I'm not saying that someone with no talent could win gp2, but I have to say to me his championship win has come from experience of the car and tracks rather than natural talent. Yrs he has own, but against a lot of guys wi half or less experience of the gp2 car than he has. There are quite a few other drivers I would pick over him if I was an f1 team owner. I have to say I don't see him in f1, if he wants to race top level single seaters I see him having to go to indycar. More likely to have a world championship career in world endurance championshipNot looking good for any non-Red Bull backed hopefuls following the events of the last couple of weeks.
It'll be interesting to see how he gets on testing the FI today, doubt he'll get a race seat for 2015 but a role as test/reserve could still happen I think/hope.
Why do the Brits seem to struggle so much to raise the sponsorship that their rivals do to get the step into F1, Sam Bird (2nd in 2013 GP2), Alex Lynn (2014 GP3 champ) as other examples? Hopefully Caterham and Marussia will make it back and Haas F1 entering in 2016 will open up some more seats.
