Thought i'd show you motorsport chaps this. I'm in my final year at uni studying Automotive engineering with motorsport, perfect for PHer really!, and we frequently get use this.....
It's an F1 spec driving simulator and sits on 6 (very powerful) hydraulic rams. The realism is insane! Every aspect of a cars dynamics is simulated including pedal feed back and steering feel. It can make you feel very sick as a passenger as it really throws you around. Especially in ahem..high speed accidents Today we were using a 997 gt3 rsr around the track Kyalami. Was my first time in the car so struggled to get more than 9 seconds within the lap record pretty much any track or car can be programmed into it with ridiculous precision. Anyway here's some more pics
A quick shot of the pit wall where we can study full driver input and car telemetry.......
And a pic of both together in action
Hope you enjoyed!

Uni lecturer taken in by marketing and spouting it as truth I suspect.
Still looks fecking ace to play with! Not jealous at all...gerr
The website lists a few companies linked to F1 along with other Motorsport levels. So it may have some truth in it. I doubt F1 teams would say what sim they use. Still looks fecking ace to play with! Not jealous at all...gerr

The last time I heard anything about it, the actual software the F1 teams use is a bespoke version of rfactor pro http://www.rfactor-pro.com/.I had a go of a Cruden simulator at the Autosport show a couple of years ago and the hardware is very impressive. I can't say I enjoyed the sensation, whilst braking it would make the transition to the front end but when it the travel limit was reached you could still be decelerating but since it couldn't travel any further it gave the incorrect sensation of either a) not slowing down any more of b) locking the brakes.
Yaw rate and acceleration felt good, but the braking and entering corners on the nose felt very unrealistic and distracting.
Either way, much better facility than at my university and it in my opinion is the future. Enjoy and good luc on your course!

Sure was, my lecturer loves his fame moments. He was also on 'for the love of cars' recently Gassing Station | General Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
