Sorry I tried, but cannot `get' formula E.

Thread bump!
Miami race is about to start now on ITV4. Despite all the downfalls of FE, I'm hoping for some good close racing tonight.
(For me it's been a long winter of no racing so I'm happy to watch anything).
There's something happening in Australia at 5am tomorrow morning too Miami race is about to start now on ITV4. Despite all the downfalls of FE, I'm hoping for some good close racing tonight.

Got to agree it's just not "motor sport" ...the whining and whooshing the cars produce at comparatively low speeds is uninspiring to say the least. The competitive racing is genuine enough and although the cars may be on the limit it just looks too slow. The drumming and background music during replays also irritates beyond words. ( music overlays on motorsport is my holly grail of hatred) . If this is the future of motorsport , and I worry it may just be that , god help us petrol heads.
Things really need to pick up next year when teams can develop their own cars otherwise this will be doomed to fail. A few more interesting tracks would be great too.
What is the point in having a permanent yellow zone for a whole race because the corner exit is deemed too narrow to complete an overtake?

They've had permanent yellows for no overtaking at the Melco Hairpin on the Macau Guia circuit for car races. If it's too tight make it a rule or a driver (most of whom are very dim) will still try to make 2 cars fit into a space only big enough for one and a half.FourWheelDrift said:

Most good drivers are far from dim. I suspect that they'd show you a clean pair of heels both tactically and in terms of ability to paralell process.Jayyylo said:

They won't out them on proper tracks for the foreseeable future because they're just not fast enough and will flatten their batteries in no time at all. What is the point in having a permanent yellow zone for a whole race because the corner exit is deemed too narrow to complete an overtake?
Hard to find much about this to like.

Pre-race they had someone in the studio explaining how an electric motor works using a cordless drill as a example "people could relate to"
Next week, how paint dries.
Nice to see "my baby" live in the studio....... ;-)Next week, how paint dries.
(even if somehow they "explained" how an electric motor worked without once mentioning the word "magnet"...... Might as well just have said "it goes round and round init" ;-( )
What a contrast to F1. Overtaking, cars sliding around and genuine wheel-to-wheel racing. OK, so it doesn't have the noise (that people complain about with F1) and it doesn't have Maldonado crashing into the wall, but the racing in Formula E is brilliant! I'm very much enjoying the racing so far and the strategies they're having to use. If people are confused by the "used too much energy" rules, just remember that F1 has the same rules ... Ricciardo finished on the podium at Melbourne last year but was disqualified for using too much energy. The minimum pit stop time is the same as the rules that have been used in GT races for years to ensure drivers don't head out of the pits with their belts undone.

I may not be the best witness but I tried again to watch Formula E but it still felt like being the spectator at a cross between the dodgems and a radio controlled car race..
Can't warm to it.
I take some offence to that! Can't warm to it.
I raced radio control cars for several years and whilst the nitro 1/10th scale cars sounded better (50,000rpm) they were considerably slower than their battery counterparts and the racing was never as good.
Check out this example. You can't say this isn't exciting
