I read that during practice Ericsson reached the highest top speed ever reached in any formula car race in history, at 392,47 km/h..
That's 243.8 mph so it's not the fastest, Paul Tracy hit 256.948mph at the Michigan International Speedway in 1996.There was even a 250mph club - https://racer.com/2014/05/24/indy-500-the-250mph-c...
Colton Herta walks away from a nasty-looking practice crash, with air getting under the car and flipping it:

Hearing Brian Herta's instructions reminded me of a crash course I went on. Apparently in a road crash where the car finishes upside down the most common serious injury is after the car comes to rest. People tend to undo the seatbelt then fall & break their neck.
It was scary even though just a simulation. They put me in an A3 on a spit type device. They then rotated the car so I was upside down & taught me how to get out without undoing the belt.

He says he’s okay, and that they’ll be ready tomorrow with the spare car. https://twitter.com/IndyCar/status/153025442012185...
Well done to the modern safety standards and the first responders. You don’t ever have a small accident at Indy.
