guess the power

Jooles, I told you that the 450hp graph was a load of bks as the wheels were slipping on the rollers. I didn't tell you it was running that power. Since having the engine totally rebuilt and the heads refurbished at ACR it has only been used at Anglesey where you seen it. During the rebuild the car was fitted with an Omex ignition ecu. I told you that I suspected the ignition timing was out. Have you looked at the mapping?
Hi Chanty .. it's not a complaining thread, the opposite in fact, I'm looking forward to getting more power from the engine ..
When I bought it a few people were very very interested in what it was making so I said I'd put the numbers up when I'd had it on the dyno .. the numbers aren't as much as I was expecting, but that's not a bad point The numbers are post mapping, the original bhp was about 8hp shy of 324/325hp .. but I couldn't make any gains in the midrange so that retarded map wasn't actually far out.
And yep that 450hp graph was pie in the sky, I didn't realise dastek dynos over-read so far though .. if the car was wheel spinning then that would actually reduce the recorded power rather than increase it. With no wheelspin it might have read 480 lol!
The dellortos are going up for sale and an injection system going on, some playing about with intake lengths and see what happens. I will run down the compressions and if anything looks amiss it will get rebuilt, but if they are all sensible I will just play about with inlets and exhausts and see if I can improve the spread of power. At the moment it's all top end and it really should e much better throughout than it is at the moment.
All good stuff for me though, finding power from engines is what I enjoy most I'm still happy!

Can you really actually get 400+ out of an na rover ive never seen anything close to 400.
What was your old engine built to spin to chanty.
Ealsey originally built it to run at 7000rpm. After the latest rebuild by ACR, I set the omex rev limiter to 6500 rpm max with a soft limit of 6200 rpm. I meant to disconnect that thing because it seemed a bit heath robinson. According to ACR the max power on his engine dyno was 360 bhpWhat was your old engine built to spin to chanty.
I just wanted to add to this thread that I'm conscious that some people might see it as having a negative vibe to it, rest assured that is most definitely not the case. I never thought I'd be in a position to be able to afford to buy a tuscan racer and I'm absolutely delighted to have been able to do so. These cars will inevitably pass from hand to hand and we are custodians of them rather than owners I guess. I still can't believe I've got one

at what rpm though, and how come the road boys are having to go forced induction to get anywhere near 400 ?
About 5.8k iirc G.The 4.8s rev better and you need carbs or tbs through the bonnet. Im sure Tims made north of 400. All JEs at 12.5:1. The 5.0s are just expensive cause they dont use the 4.6 stuff which the 4.8 and 5.2 do. Aint there some 5.5s now?
Joolz,
I had my 4.5lt Rover on 48 carbs in my Tuscan on the rollers for a power run this afternoon. First graph in quite a few years. I know this engine is strong and set up really well but is old school and still runs a dizzy with no ignition ecu. Are you wanting to see the graph? if so I will post it up.

Would be good to see the graph Perry.I'm currently welding up my new intake system for the racer (long runner lengths, straight path, small bore all to hopefully make more torque). The development intake may get trialled on a hillclimb griff I work on first though, the racer still has no exhaust either .. doh.
