I went to Lydden Hill last year and paid £35/adult for two days including camping to see WRX, RX2 and the Touring cars class.
Now Silverstone want £50 for Sunday only to see just WRX and RX2. Assuming it is the usual Q3, Q4, Finals format on Sunday that is only 13 WRX races and 11 RX2 races.
Unfortunately I have no interest in the music side, "best street food" or spending hours queuing for a passenger lap so this year I am voting with me feet and going to Santa Pod to watch a full day of drag racing instead.

The entire event is a total con prices wise.
Even Lydden was getting pricey considering the lack of cars that were present last two years, I was only doing one day, and that was a bit steep. 30 odd quid for 15 or so WRX cars and some god awful RX2 and buggies and a series of spluttering GpB cars that were driven slowly is not good value compared to other race series. And Lydden is now a tarmac only RX track really, most of the dirt lasts a few heats, then is just polished tar and concrete, track is awful.
But this Silverstone event is aimed at non fans, always has been, so most real fans will not be going obviously.
Sadly, if it works, this is a template they could use elsewhere.

Is anybody else going to Silverstone this week? Or am I the only hypocrite to do so? I’m a sucker for an offer and a weekend away.
New for this weekend is ARX aka Americas Rally Cross. This seems to be a new series picking up those affected by the demise of global rally x. Liam Dorran is in the line up alongside Foust, Speed etc.

Doran is there
Even more reason not to go.
To be fair this event is aimed at punters, not rallycross fans, the track is garbage, and the RX is not the main draw, singers are.
So if you have any soul whatsoever, you will not attend, if you do, you are helping to destroy rallycross in my eyes.

I'll be going to Silverstone for the Sunday if some freeby tickets turn up.
Not interested in all the fluff that comes with "speedmachine" I've always found the racing, driver signings, look round the paddock, collecting a few freebies was more than enough to take up our time when we've been to WRX at Lydden.
IF WRX was still at Lydden we'd be there as usual, me and my lad have thoroughly enjoyed it every year we have been. The Handbrake has only bothered to visit the circuit once, plenty enough to keep her occupied in Canterbury and the surrounding area, great little Italian restaurant was part of the pilgrimage.
In my experience Silverstone really does suck the life and/or £££ out of events I've really enjoyed at other venues over the years, WSBK, BSB, motoGP and now world rallycross.
The only events I'd bother with are the silverstone classic and the F1 if I really wanted to splash some cash.

All these poeple harping on about Lydden
Last time I went there a few years ago, there was hardly any dirt on the loos sections, the parking was terrible the queueing even worse.
Was a truly miserable experience for a fairly hefty price tag, with no supports classes and only about 15 supercars.
So, really as a day otu, it lost its edge a few years before that when IMG got involved, (no surprise there)

I’m going. Thought it was worth a punt. Though confirmation today says you can’t bring your own food and drink! Bloody cheek.
That's an interesting comment considering that the last few times I've been to Silverstone there have been simply massive queues for every single food outlet in the place. So you pay a shedload of money to go in, and spend 30 minutes at lunchtime to be served a wet, limp burger and be mugged £7-£8 for the priviliege
Then anyone who just wanted to do just two days had no option except to buy a full (more expensive) 3 day ticket whether they wanted that or not, and camping charges which would make anyone who's ever pitched a tent anywhere else in the UK (including Santa Pod) wince.
Of course having started last year with advance prices of £78, which then came down to £55, I'm sure all those people who committed early will feeling really appreciated to know you can now just turn up on the gate and pay just £25... so that's next year's advanced sales fVked then...
I'm sure Silverstone marketing and events management think they are being so-so clever trying to create a hostage market inside thier little fiefdom but frankly they havn't got the slightest clue (or just don't care) about customer experience and building a reputation. In the modern world it's actually quite tragic.
