Brady James has won the "So you want to be a Grand Prix driver!" Paul Hopkins was let down by the gearbox breaking after 3 laps.

1st - Brady James
2nd - Rui Chagas
3rd - Paul Hopkins

Tiffany Chittenden was in the final 3 but read the small print on a copyrighted contract offered by Tim Matthews!

These UK driving competitions don't seem to offer any real benefits.
I entered one last year called "Chance of a lifetime" while in Aus travelling and the guy who won (sadly not me) got a full season racing in the brand new Lotus Elise series that was supporting the V8 supercars and worth $150K. The equivalent here would be a season in the Seat cup supporting the BTCC. The races were all televised and he actually won the whole 2004 championship which meant he qualified for the second part of the prize, a full season in V8 supercars worth $750K.
The guy who won it this year gets a year racing in the new Lotus Exige championship which again is televised and on the V8 supercars calender.
This really is a genuine opportunity to become a professional driver.

Now that Tiffany could not agree terms with Matthews; my friend Rui has the title in the bag! A worthy successor to Mark Johnston

I'd like to think that the advice and help James Crofts, myself, Mark Johnston and Neil Purdie gave to Brady all contributed!

I know Brady well and he is a genuine winner, very down to earth.
I for one wish him the best with whatever he does with his prize!!!

Some of his photos are at www.bradyjames.tk

Well done Brady heard that there was some excitment in the paddock between a well known pistonheader and Mr Matthews.

Anyone care to comment.

As an entrant to this years "World" comp, i find it all quite dark and depressing that such a good concept is ruined by greed and deception... such is racing i guess!

As a suggestion, you guys should round together and establish a creditable competition with real prizes and genuine opportunities for entrants. To win even a season in FPA or scholarship FRenault would be a fantastic prize, as opposed to a wishful one off in Euroboss...

Anyone think they can rise to the challenge?!

To be honest I'd enter any competition that I thought was run fair - i.e. complete novices, never held an MSA licence etc (just as the origonal E&M one was supposed to be ), and one that 'greasing the organisers palms' doesn't get you any further! - if your crap - your crap!! not you're crap but you've got a few quid so it's OK.

The prize doesn't even have to be a full season, FPA used to do a winter series etc - something like that would be good.... or maybe a British GT drive (or Le Mans )

Definately! There is a whole bunch of enthusiasts/ non-license holders crying out for such a chance, but its stories like these that make any scholarship/comp suspect.

A drive in a Euroboss car is fantastic and i take my hat off to brady james for winning, but its a tall order to do any potential talent justice in a one off outing. And by the sounds of it, he even has to raise sponsorship to actually race!

A drive in a winter series or something similar would give a driver several chances to prove themselves, which is especially useful as they are likely to be learning and improving with every test session.

Its a bloody good business idea if anyone is listening?!!!!

Just dont try to take the piss...

Cost me $2000 to enter and don't ask how they do it cos i haven't a clue but if you pay all in one go you get your full entry back after 18 months. I came 2nd in the pool stages and 3rd in the final and got a bunch of cash in prize money plus free entry into this years event. (sadly couldn't make it)
All very professionally run and plenty of time in the car s over the course of the competition. If something like this existed here it would really take off although sadly I don't think I'd get near 3rd place.

Edited to say: They also have a three tier system, to cater for novices who've never held a comp. licence, intermediates with a national only licence and experienced for the er, experienced.

I bet he's well pi55ed-off then. If he already had the sponsorship then surely he would have went racing and not bothered with the contest.

So, if what you're saying is right, he's paid a stack of cash for the right to go out and get sponsorship to do a race which was up for rent anyway. Sounds very unfair, as I'm sure the cash from all the other entrants has *more* than paid for the cost of the race.

Still, good luck to him, in fact it may be that bit easier to get the funds now that he's won the competition and can prove that he can drive!

I have spoken to Brady and he has been told by the organisers he has to help with sponsorship to do the 16 club races to get his International "C" licence. I have advised him to contact the sponsor of the event and ask for their help.

I am watching Watchdog at the moment!

Surely E&M can come up with some sponsorship, after all if Brady is unable to compete it wont exactly look good for E&M's reputation... What are they gonna write in the comp review?!

More to the point, what fool is gonna enter this years event if the winner isn't awarded the stated prize?!

Makes a mockery of Brady's achievement is what it does

As runner-up to Mark Johnston in the 2003 Programme, I have been watching everyones progress. I must admit, when I saw Paul was back in, I wanted him to win it.

Although I must say, Brady you are a very worthy winner

Any idea what Mark Johnston has planned for this season? Haven't heard much of late and there is no mention of him on the FPA site for this year...

I took part in the 2003 event and was lucky enough to watch mark haul a quantum (cateram style thingy) round the autotest track they set up- he was better than tiff needell himself! Anyone there that day would testify to that

And what of his contract with essentially sport? Did that ever come to fruition or was it just yet another claim?

Its only 12 signatures to get an international C license. Surely the competition can pay the costs of this -otherwise unless the winner has got £12 - £20k lying around or can miraculously raise this in sponsorship then it is game over.
Unless the organisers made this very clear to Mr James then I would suggest a visit to a decent Solicitor.
