The Organiser couldn't raise the money if he tried. It seems he's been using bogus sponsorship to make the event look good. I spoke with TOCA Racing Driver marketing and they confirm that they didn't sponsor this year, even though their game logo appears on the race suits and backing boards.

As the person who organised all the deals and infrastructure the 2003 event and the 2004 Qualifying (before having to take SYW LTD to court for outstanding commission payments), I'm going to look at the Australian event to see if we can do the same here with full terrestrial TV Coverage.

Max, This seems a very positive step! I am sure there are many PHer's who could help organise this!

Here is a link to the Australian competition

There has been alot of good ideas mentioned throughtout this thread and there is certainly a business oppertunity for a properly directed, chance fo a lifetime style, competition. But it would take serious policing to ensure a fair chance for the novice. The entrants to all the SYW had such a vast differences in experience that it became very difficult for a novice to stand any chance of success.

For Example, the 2004 competition was open to both competition licence holders and novices. But yet both catagories had to compete together...go figure!

Needless to say I wasn't at all surprised to find that 2nd place man, Rui Chagas, had spent 2004 competing in the Seat Cupra Championship (a £150,000 a year drive, and the previous year in Formula BMW...

Novices are wasting their time and money entering these competitions. I'm afraid the only way to get started competing in national and international motorsport is find piles of money and buy your way in!
