Some Silverstone WEC photos
Discussion
I spent much of the race focussing on adding some 'dynamism' to my photographs this year. Keeper to Junker ratio was terrible
Regardless I managed to get some I'm happy with:

Silverstone looks terrible on the telly with anything less than 100,000 in, Spa will have fewer spectators, but with only 3 stands and a backdrop of the Ardennes forest it'll look miles better and no-one will comment on the attendance.
Yup. Spa is magical. The geography of Spa helps - the gradient changes makes it my favourite place to photograph cars on a quiet race weekend (as someone without a tabard). My lot from last year is here https://flic.kr/s/aHskzXLWCe - you don't often get to shoot looking up at a race car!

Thanks for the photographs guys. Some crackers there. No objection to them being used as wallpaper?
I followed the ELMS from 2003 to 2010 and the racing was thrilling. I was in the pits for some, and with a press pass for a couple, and I got a real buzz from it.
I went to a wet Silverstone one year where there was hardly any advertising for it, not even on the Silverstone website. No stands were open, despite it teaming with rain. Towards the end of the race there were more people in the pits than watching. I was sitting with a couple of the team managers in a tent and I asked them why no one wanted spectators and I was hit with something of a diatribe against the FIA, Mosley and Ecclestone, much of it unrepeatable, although all of it memorable. What came over, not only from them but from a couple of drivers, was that Silverstone was concerned with regards the renewal of their contract to run the British GP. Support another international formula, or perhaps support for the ACO, and take the consequences sort of thing.
The circuit even suggested shortening the race to 3 hours so the cleaners could go home.
Yet the racing was exciting despite the majority of laps being behind the safety car. Incident full is a fair description. The weather helped to even out performances.
Note the lack of eye contact between driver and team boss.

Derek, if you want any of mine as a wallpaper - but without the Watermark - PM me.One question: do you do historic racing?
Thanks again,
Derek

It varied over time. I think originally it was 1000km, but only nominally. The first lasted 6hrs almost to the minute. Video here of me a Steve McQueen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EVtSrcPvTcSilverstone was four hours (although I doubted myself and had to check) as was Spa, but both were advertised as 1000km, although for Silverstone, only on the programme.

Historic Racing? Sometimes.. Most of my time is spent watching WEC stuff. I am tempted by the Classic at Silverstone - although mostly because I know someone who should be racing there (Historic Formula Ford). It's more in terms of geography for me... Having a young family I can't quite indulge as I used to. I will almost certainly go along to one of the Bicester Heritage events - as it is 15 minutes up the road from me. I went along to one of the Flywheel events they put on last year with my two sons - they really enjoyed it as well.

Fair point. Still 50k is pretty poor over the Easter weekend.Derek Smith said:

I think the current ELMS was re launched around 2012 with 3 hour races, rising to 4 last year.
I went on the Saturday and Sunday, not having been to a WEC race before. It was a fantastic weekend, and great value for money too. I also felt that it was a hell of a lot more accessible than F1 despite only having a general admission ticket. Definitely considering Spa and Le Mans too now. One of the benefits of the race being long is that I went around the whole track finding points to view the race, starting and ending on the pit straight.
Just a selection of my favourite photos from the weekend. I was using an Olympus E420 four thirds with a 40-150mm lens. I'm not a photographer by any means but I was quite happy with what I got out of it, despite feeling distinctly under equipped all weekend compared to what a lot of guys were packing!!
These two are my personal favourites..

In case anyone is interested, there are a few video clips on my Youtube page https://www.youtube.com/user/owylie2007 I managed to get the aftermath of the Porsche fire at Luffield. Mostly pit stop shots from the weekend.
Here are a few from down the pitlane.

I love this event. It's the 3rd year I've taken my now 8 year old daughter, We get there before the start to watch the cars and drivers line up for the National Anthem (which is quite a site), stay for the 6 hours and watch the podium.
Great value for money, my ticket was around £35, which included the pit walk and my daughter goes for free. The access to the Silverstone wing and all the entertainment behind the pits, makes it a great family day out. You don't get anywhere near this level of access in F1.
Looking forward to 2018 already.
