I was at Donington last weekend but was thankfully at another part of the track when the incident happened. However when I took to Twitter to find out why the race was red flagged I saw the horrific footage. We could see all the vehicles surrounding the two cars which appeared to be fused together and knew it was bad.
I just heard on the radio that he's conscious and told his race team boss that, "we'll sort it" with regards to racing again and has already enquired about getting a hand operated clutch! He sounds like a brave and driven kid so I genuinely wish him all the best in his recovery and achieving his goals as a racing driver.
Keep the donations coming.

Hefty donations from Red Bull and Porsche Carrera Cup GB today. Apparently Max Verstappen matched Buttons £15k and randomly, Woody Harrelson added another £5k.
Most read story on the BBC News, amazing how this has spread.
Are you sure it is "that" Woody Harrelson though? Most read story on the BBC News, amazing how this has spread.
I wonder if LH and the rest of the F1 drivers Paddock, which lets face it, the £260k would be pocket change for most, have made a donation?

I'd imagine most have made donations, but anonymously so that people don't make comparison of who gave how much.
^^ this basically, Chilton and a few others kept their amount hidden and with good reason. I'd wager Hamilton did an anonymous one too and I can understand why. VladD said:

I am sure he will be well looked after by various teams / drivers. Genuinely good luck to the guy.

I've got a feeling Lewis put in something around the £50k mark anonymously as the total seemed to jump massively around the time he was tweeting his support yesterday early evening, seemed to go from ~£150k to over £200k in about 5 minutesLocoBlade said:

Just donated.
Many of us pay good money to go and watch motorsport and part of it is the thrills and spills (especially in BTCC), but nobody wants accidents like this. That said, it wasn't that long ago that an accident this bad would have been fatal, so huge respect to the car designers, the marshalls and of course the amazing medical staff.

Absolutely gutted for the lad.
I assume there's a limit on how good prostheses on the NHS can be, which is what a lot of this money will be used for?
I suspect so - modern prosthetics appear to have moved on a lot from "mannqeuin limbs" but they have their limits, and I doubt the NHS would ever pay for a set of these "motorsport spec" jobs that Zanardi and the Race2Recovery guys haveI assume there's a limit on how good prostheses on the NHS can be, which is what a lot of this money will be used for?
