As an advert slot it has been littered with crashes and safety car periods.

That 360° cam footage during the shunt was amazing. We have to get these in F1, although they will be less useful in twisty circuits of course.

Has the safety car led the most laps?

I think they have, but not consistently used.

The gyroscopic ones on MotoGP bikes are even better - rotate and keep the horizon level.

Loved the commentators remark "This is still most grueling 500 miles a race engine will ever do!" ... aside from the 3,000+ miles they do at Le Mans that is!

Yes but that's 500 miles of full throttle, max revs. A Le Mans engine is constantly on and off the throttle

Adverts showing cars going sideways, and implying that driving is fun. Rather alien to us in the UK these days. smile

Well I expect of the 3,300 covered by the winners more than 500 is at full throttle but it's all a bit of fun... biggrin

Sato vs Chilton for the win. Who would have bet on that from this side of the pond?

Would be cool to see Helio (or as the American French speakers call him 'Ellio) win. 4th Indy 500 win would make him a legend.

Max in a good place for the win depending on restart. But I'm going to support Jones as the newbie and Brit.

General views on watching properly for the first time is it has been interesting, but now I know the race up to around lap 140 is pointless then it might be less interesting. Seems it's down to luck if you get enough fuel saving from yellows to "jump" position for the last pit stop(s).

Chilton looks like he will be passed unless this fighting for 2nd/3rd helps.

How are these guys dicing at 230mph without moaning about dirty air? The lack of corners?
