On the face of it this is a funding issue on his part but I dare say that stems from the MGs being underfunded by 888 if you pick at the bones a little.

I'm not totally sure why you'd swap a Focus for an MG6 but I guess it's a bigger budget team and he got a chunky discount on the drive.
Werent the mg last year running a mix of old ngtc spec suspension and the mew rml kit and worked pretty good, where as this year changed everything to the new spec part. Could be the reason of lack of performance specially with new drivers.
Can't see the cars or 888 as a name remaining for long and can see bmr struggling to keep 4 Subaru going. Gown would welcome the tbl back so maybe this is his strange way of getting tbl back for another team possibly to enter next year. He has made it clear he doesn't want teams with more than 3 cars last season but had no option with bmr/888 as they already had them.

The discussions re JP putting his hand in his pocket are interesting. He's a very smart businessman and extremely good at selling his brand to partners but I doubt he actually takes a salary from the team. If you look at the personal sponsors on his helmet they will be paying a small six figure sum in total which is effectively his salary. The bigger team deals will be contingent on him being in the car (Flux, for example) and a proportion will be paid to him for brokering the deal but this is what is funding his drive.
As for the rockstar lifestyle and helicopter, I think the heli is a deal with Augusta Westland and probably quid-pro-quo where he has X hours a year in return for a few days of his time, a sticker or two and a few days of corporate entertainment.
He also has his marketing business (Brandpilot) which I guess makes some money and allows him to live like he does. He does have a very nice house and some good toys but after 10+ years as a pro driver in the big budget manufacturer era he will have earned a huge pile of cash and require a rather lower income to maintain the lifestyle now.
At the moment he doesn't look great but I think everyone knows the car is bent and really that makes it the team's job to sort it rather than his so it's reflecting worse on BMR than him. I know he sticks to BTCC as it minimises his travel and means he can work on other business interests in the week where other race series would mean jetting all over the place and driving on Fridays too but just like Gio he isn't going to do it unless he's getting paid somehow.

Daniel Lloyd is off to TCR with Craft-Bamboo. That series seems to be growing in popularity as well as manufacturer interest so will be one to watch I'm sure.

Jason Plato needs to sell his fleet of dinosaur eggs to fund Land Rovers official entry in to next years btcc with a mk2 discovery with a 3.0 v5 diesel from the current Jaguar line up.
