Thing is even if they’re a second a lap faster than the BTCC cars, fans don’t care they just want to see close racing and that’s what BTCC is guaranteed to offer, for the first couple of years at least TCR will be one or two fast guys who will go there to collect trophies rather than going to the more competitive series and being at the back.

I was commenting more on the value that the TCR cars offer rather than whether the UK series is going to be a success or not.

However very few series hit the ground and are immediate successes, it takes time to build the audience. The biggest thing BTCC has in it's favour (and what made F1 what it is in a lot of way) is the TV coverage it has enjoyed and the audience it's built up over decades from that.

So what are saying is when btcc turned up with 8 cars in 2001 that should have been cancelled too and tbh less than that actually tested and the cars other than Vauxhalls were useless.

Considering most of the country was covered in snow over the last week or so and no media day to have 7 out isn't too bad. Th first year I think will see a small core group of runners and other teams and drivers drooping in and out of the series throughout the year.
There were a good 26 cars at the British GT media day on the 8th of March at Donington, for reference.

BTCC had two classes in 2001 and there were a lot more than eight cars. I appreciate you're referring to the top class only, but your post sounds like there were eight cars in the BTCC, which there were not. It was also the first year of new regulations which were used only in the BTCC and nowhere else in the world - TCR cars are readily available off the shelf from many manufacturers and have been since the start of 2015.

2001 was hardly the first year of BTCC and neither is this year the first for British GT so it's a comparing apples to pears situation.

You misunderstood my comments.

I mentioned British GT because its media day was only a day or two after TCR's, which counters the argument that the low turn out was largely as a result of the snow the previous week. All the BGT cars that were scheduled appear did so.

The BTCC reference was made by the other guy, who said there were only eight cars in 2001. Those cars were in the top class only (the National Saloon class had plenty of cars) and it was the very first year of those regulations anywhere in the world. TCR cars have been readily available since the start of 2015 and there are plenty around so lack of availability cannot be used as a reason.

I thought I'd been reasonably clear, but perhaps I should have spelled it out better.

I really don't get why people on this forum and many others are so anti-TCR. It's like they're dying for it to be a monumental flop.

Although any potential new team/driver entries is good news, of course.

I really hope the series is a success, even if it takes time to build.

The cars look good, there are quite a few around, there's manufacturer involvement globally, the cars should be cheaper to buy and run than BTCC, there are other series that the cars can be raced in, and I think it's important that the UK has a series where the cars have global recognition.

If it had been me, I would have had a Class B for the existing Mk2 Seat SuperCopas in existence, and I might have tried to differentiate the series from others by having 40 min pit stop races for 1 or 2 drivers to share costs or forcaealthy amateur to share with a professional.

Is this the same Derek Palmer of the ex Infiniti BTCC team? The one which Infiniti pulled all interest and didn’t want to be associated with after 3 rounds?

Seems a few international entries at least for round one. Probably some testing for them and may have been encouraged by the organisers to prop up the grid numbers especially for the first round. Bit of a catch 22, without money it won’t take off but without sufficient entrants there is no crowds and therefore no sponsors.

I’d like to see TCR have some success. BTCC will always be the main event in the UK touring wise but perhaps there is room for TCR and it helps put on an event for the support races too. I’ll pop along to Knockhill to support Aiden provided it will have a reasonable showing on the grid and it isn’t a total washout weather wise.

If they have a dozen cars for the first round, I'm guessing that they'll be happy. Bringing in some international cars is a good plan.

It's been a huge successful everywhere else, can't see why not in the UK.
