Trailer bought thanks to a fellow PH'er. £900 to add to the total. (Was a bit cheaper with some very minor work required that'll bring it up to that).

Still can't work out if I need to re-plate it or not? probably best to save any problems.

Costs so far:

Equipment
Trailer £900

Training
£135

Unrecoverable Miscellaneous
Towbar £400
Numberplate £10
Car Club Membership £30 (for us both)

TOTAL £1475

Another delivery today - set of tie down straps to secure a car on a trailer. £45.

Giving the trailer a general look over I discovered a nail in one of the tyres, that's in the garage hopefully getting repaired. I've decided to re-new the trailer bed too. I'll start the tomorrow as we may be getting a car on Saturday.

Well done OP and fellow PHer for supporting. Looks like a lot of trailer for under a grand.

What car are you looking at?

Looking at a K11 Micra. It's probably the cheapest way in and for his first season a decent starter car. Cheap and plentiful spares as well as being easy to work on.

Remarkably clean underneath.

How much for 4 sheets of ply? yikes

I guess you’ve already invested in the ply. An alternative is trailer deck board, phonlic ply its known as and generally comes with a black embossed finish. No idea whether it’s any cheaper mind!

That brown phenolic ply is more durable, but substantially more expensive than most other ply. Rhino board, buffalo board, hexagrip and other tradenames.

Glad to hear you’re happy with the trailer Chris, shame about the tyre though, I hadn’t noticed that.

If you send me your PayPal address I’ll ping you over the cost of a new tyre if it can’t be repaired.

Yes, bought the Marine ply yesterday and cut it to size then sealed the edges up. As per the reply below yours, buffalo board is expensive, but a moot point anyway as I needed to get started so I can use the trailer on Saturday and can only work on it between other jobs. Marine ply was in stock locally.

Thanks mate, a very kind offer, but not necessary. It's my trailer now and its on me. Even taking into account the work I'm doing, I'm still well under budget on the trailer.

Hope you manage to find a suitable car. Just watch out as a lot of rally cars have been passed around! I have never had a good experience with buying a used one and have built the last 2 cars myself. This has cost more in the short term but overall has been better and more cost effective.
There is a lot of cars out there that the standards are not good on.
Good luck with your search.

I don't think your doing to bad at just under 4k for all you have got and done. Micra's are well proven cars in the category.

Yes, but lots to spend still. Car needs new seats and belts as the ones in it are out of date.

Little shopping spree this morning to Turner Autosport in Strathaven https://turnerautosport.com

Bought: -
suit, boots, gloves
Helmet and getting fitted to helmet - Hans posts and mic etc.
Hans device
Intercom for the car

Total spend £1070. This was a discounted price.

A great service from Steve Turner. Highly recommended.

GSM do fantastic deals on seats and belts and there service is fantastic. Purchased mine from them earlier on in the year. We may bump in to each other next year sometime depending where your sons events are.

You should take a run down to autosport international in January Chris, always plenty deals to be had on motorsport related stuff.

We might have a spare seat or two if you fancied going down.

I'd love to visit the Autosport show but I think I'm working that weekend!

Looking for some advice on an idle issue with the car.

Sometimes it idles fine, sometimes high but mostly low and cuts out as you pull up to stop. Anyone know about these? Or can point me to a decent micra forum?

I'll have a look at/in the throttle body tomorrow.

Test day at Kames.

Amazing how much progress made with a few drives round the track. All just about building confidence in the car just now.

Travel £30, petrol for the Micra £20

That's almost certainly the idle control valve, around £100 ish, double (probably) that if you don't fit it yourself. Not done one on a Micra but done it on a Civic, not difficult to do.
