We miss him too!

He was the subject of a long conversation with my son at the Nurburgring this weekend - recalling proper motor racing legends and their antics that he is too young to have known about!

I remember Gerry telling me about his accident with Tom Walkinshaw. It's hazy but I think Gerry was in a Triumph and Walkinshaw in a Mazda, possibly RX-7.

They had an almighty collision and Gerry's car ended upside down on a barrier.
His helmet had also fallen off in the collision.

The Doctor said that under normal circumstances the heartbeat would have risen so much as to cause a massive heart attack. Gerry's heart rate was apparently quite low, due to the amount of time he'd spent in the bar immediately before the race...

Is it really five years ago...I was there, Gerry was driving the Camaro of DB, had a few problems with low fuel pressure and came back in, stayed in the car while they re fueled..went out..parked up and switched off. Seems like yeaterday.

I was racing the Clio at Croft this weekend and talking about how I ended up racing and how Gerry Marshall was a huge influence on me as a boy.

RIP.

I doffed my cap at Old Nail down at Donington a couple of months ago. Also found a Gerry greetings card so that's my old man's birthday card in the bag.

One of motor racing's greatest characters who became a childhood hero of mine pilotting the Marsh Plant V8.

Happy days, I remember photographing Gerry at Brands, Druids exit to be exact, his Vauxhall Firenza had lost a wheel and the Vauxhall was on its roof, the car was on fire and a brave track marshal (no pun intended!)was trying to put Gerry out a side window by his racing boots. The trouble was the roof had part come down and Gerry arse would not come through the depressed gap where the window used to be, no matter how much the track marshal pulled. Fortunately the fire was put out and Gerry eventually got out through where the screen once was. To say Gerry was unimpressed would be an understatement. It was all a bit keystone cops but it still makes me laugh.

My neighbour was talking about pulling Gerry from a burning car (he was a track marshall back in the day) I wonder if it was the same guy?

I'll have to check with dad, but I'm guessing that wasn't something Gerry made a habit of !!

In which case a) we were there too (me in my pram) and b) dad probably has some pictures of it.

I'd like a copy as well. And maybe you could PM me details for me to campaign the book, as I do.

I'm not one for sadness over people I've never met, but this bloke seems to have been the epitome of what I think makes a proper racing driver: Titanic skills matched to titanium balls and a properly good bloke too by all accounts. RIP, big man.
