Going to my first BTCC race at Oulton Park in a few weeks; have read up on past discussions about places to watch from - Knickerbrook/Hislop's seem popular, Cascades seems a good place too?

Any other tips for a first-timer?

Is there any way of hearing any commentary on the races - do they have loudspeakers with commentary, or is there a radio station to tune in to?

I feel I really should know more - am too used to being a BTCC couch-potato!

There’s nowhere bad to spectate at Oulton really, far side of the track either infield or outfield is where you’ll see most action, and about half the track. Plus that’s where all the trade stands and stuff are.

I always try and get there early and use the Knickerbrook entrance. Then park on the hill looking across to Cascades or keep driving down towards shell oils and park on the bank there. It means you can sit in the car and watch if its raining but also if your taking a packed lunch you dont need to walk into the infield to get it and miss the racing. Parking on the infield is okay if you get in early for a good spot on the Cascades Bank or up Clay Hill, but be prepared for a mega wait trying to get out.

In regards to the commentary they have loudspeakers round the edge of the track and you can buy little earpiece radios, however last time I went for the GT Cahmpionship they said they are only using them for BSB which was very disappointing, this may have changed.

Other than that, a walk through to druids is always good for close up action if its wet weather, cars are moving around a fair bit there. Final corner Lodge is fun for last lap overtaking manoeuvres, this can be accessed by footbridge before the pit lane.

Hope you enjoy it, its a great circuit!

Last year we sat on the banking by Knickerbrook. Toilets, food wagon etc all near by. Mrs went for the first time and loved it there, as we could see the cars come down through cascades, then back up over the crest of Hilltop, and up through Knickerbrook. Did have a wander about during the day, but that was definitely (we felt) the best of many good options.

Get the app, and listen to commentary through that. I don't know how good it is, or how much of a delay, but worth might be worth having.

50-50 if you’ll get signal at Oulton Park at very best, a lot of the time phones show 4 bars and 4g but there’s so much demand on the masts you’re lucky to get anything at all during the day.

Every year for the last 5 my phones lit up like a Xmas tree on the way home as messages finally get through and that’s been with Vodafone, T-mob/EE and 3.

Thanks all - I guess the app should work okay on the site wifi, though I think that's only in/around the buildings, not out on the grass...

He'd have more weight behind his complaints if he wasn't so far behind Sutton.

The Monaco comparison wasn't as daft as it sounded.

Big accident with the Clios. I don't think it was her fault. Looks like the other Clio moved across her.

The green car turned right across her when she was already on the track limits white line - st driving considering they were onto the straight and should be given a proper penalty for causing an avoidable accident.

Ginetra juniors doing the full stock cars style smash and bash in this race!

Classy drive from Turkington; he drove well in race one as well with a couple of good overtaking moves.
