BTCC Round 5 - Croft
Discussion
Tin foil hat on or not 2 weeks ago Plato is saying very publicly changes are needed or he’ll be making a big decision, and with not much chance for testing in the time between races the same ballast free cars that were running last are suddenly winning with full ballast....
Croft is a rear wheel drive circuit everyone knows that but the BM’s haven’t won a race on full ballast like that this year.

Look at the speed trap figures. If TOCA had given the Subarus far more boost than they said they're hiding it very well...
It's just a combination of things. Lap times are down from previous years, big drivers having problems with setups, ballast isn't such a problem if you're at the front, the Subaru has always carried ballast well and the engine/cooling changes they've made let them run nearer to the potential of the engine.

If they’ve found this hidden potential in the engine then they should get a boost decrease, same as the Honda’s and BM’s have had in the past showing this pace in the past then. Everyone is quick to jump on the Honda bias, they’ve never had an advantage like the Subaru’s have had today with ballast or no ballast
Pretty obvious from the onboards that it's not straight line power and it's just that the Subaru is very good on the brakes and the corner entry phase.
People seem to forget this car won the championship last year and came close the year before. It's a very good car that has been held back this year by the issues with changing engine tuners. The revised inlet manifold has addressed some of the problems but they're still way down in a straight line.

Did you listen too Tim Harvey or just using your tin foil hat again. They are in the exact same place as last year actually in fact are slightly slower than last year and 2016 at same track. The onboard of Sutton clearly shows a lack of straight line pace and the speed traps show it. As for the gap Lloyd won by 5s with a civic that has been nowhere all weekend explain that.

I haven’t seen a single person try and claim the Subaru is fast in a straight line though.
Which obviously means the tiny gain has not made the difference. They have got a fix on the cooling which allows them to be able too run the boost they are allowed. They had to turn the boost down and play with the mapping to true and work around the engine and cooling issues. They have been working on it since beginning of season just maybe they have worked out a solution and was able too use it at croft. As I've said looking at times from 16/17 they are still a fraction of the times they have set.Quote from Turkingtons twitter after race 2. His "clean" move comment can be carried into his performance for race 3, really shows what a class driver he is. He could easily have forced the situation with Neal.
“It was a bit of cat and mouse with Ingram and I was laying on the pressure the last 5 or 6 laps but
we just hadn’t enough to do it cleanly. I got a piece of good track space at the start and went for the FL.”
Contrast that with the move Matt Neal (typical) made on Sutton in race 3 when he went for the non existent space, sutton was fortunate to be able to rejoin and only lost 2 positions

Shame that stewards deemed that a racing incident with no punishment yet put Sutton back behind Jordan for his push into the hairpin.Really don't see how it was a racing incident. From the "body language" of the car it was obvious that Neal was going to do that pretty much from the exit of the hairpin.
