I reckon a decent 15/20 field of quality GPB cars would look great running ahead of the main field , but how many would last the distance ? The occasional rallyday works , 5 days in a forest would be a bit much for many cars , and owners .
There were 2 GpB cars (a Nissan 240RS and a Celica Twin Cam Turbo). Back in the 80s, both these were known more for their durability than their outright speed on the world stage. Neither made it past 1/3 distance on the Roger Albert.

There are distance demo/show events already for such cars - the Lombard Rally Bath *shudder* and Chester Revival Rally spring to mind. I think the Roger Albert is just fine as it is, a proper test of speed and endurance. GpB cars trundling round would be detrimental.

I am not simply talking about Group B, those cars are mostly now replicas or worth so much money demo's is all they are ever going to do. Imagine a few Delta's Cosworths, Impreza's barking around for a few of the stages (not all)

I value the event, it is a test the like of which does not exist even for modern cars anymore.

The 240RS and Toyota were both driven by World championship quality drivers, De Mevius knows the UK well and his lad is a top driver in Belgium, a few more like that would be amazing.

But I guess the event is all about proper, old school rallying, and big names would attract crowds which would be hard to deal with, just a shame a country with as much heritage as ours in rallying does not really push the boat out as well as places like Germany (little rally heritage beyond Rohrl and Audi), Italy, Belgium (Spa is often packed with WRC or ex WRC drivers) even Spain and other places.

Footage of Neuville winning the Rallye des Cretes overall last weekend in his 1.6 Corsa (Nova) is well worth a catch up. Totally committed but just seems to have so much time.

Was also the Rallye du Var down near Sainte Tropez, don't think they've ever seen it so wet. Loeb won easily in a WRC Hyundai. Looks a good event to visit with a massive entry.

And of course actually won the event in 2010; the year of the snow. Stefan Stouf & Joris Eraard; Seem to remember he had the right tyres, the top seeds didn't and he gained a massive lead early on.

Even those running things at the top manage to take time to come out and play at grass roots level. We had a good battle with them until we broke the car.

Never thought I’d see the day local road rallying made it onto the radar of the WRC!

At the last event for us in 2019. The Christmas stages at Croft. A good mix of cars, hope everybody stays safe.

Saw some of this earlier. Some great footage.

What i did see that annoyed the hell out of me were several corners where the road was ice free on the way in and out, but on the bend, usually a hairpin was covered in snow.

I recall the French doing this numerous times over the years, to a lot of drivers cost, I guess the crews are aware it happens, but it is akin to moving arrows and the like, makes me growl!!

I just couldn't purposely chuck snow onto the stage, imagine living with that if the worst happened to a crew!
